Ahhh. If only this were true.

Mr Garmin begs to differ. Quite a bit, actually.

Is that information incorrect?, 34.36 split for a 5K is very good.

That is the issue.

I deliberately slowed my pace today to see what the difference was between apps.

Those figures are from Google Fit which is on my phone (which obviously comes along with me),

My Garmin (a 935), says my average pace was closer to 8.30/km - which was my aim. It also showed I only did 6.2km, not the 7.67km on Google Fit.

I'm assuming the issue is GPS related.

And I think the Garmin is probably correct. Unfortunately.

I use the Google Fit and Nike Running App on my phone both at the same time and they're usually close in terms of pace. Google Fit is kinder and says I'm very slightly faster. I'm hoping they aren't both wrong otherwise my pace would even be more shocking 😅

Not invested in a watch yet

Well I was using the same combo until recently when i bought the Garmin 935.

The Garmin showed very different distances and times. The distances were shorter and the times longer.

I checked with another watch & app and this agreed with the Garmin.

I have had to to pick up my pace considerably.

Phone apps of course, rely on the accuracy of your phone GPS. Garmin is usually the more accurate, I'm afraid!🙂

Hahaha.

Yes I know.

How disappointing.

The phone's GPS reception is often shadowed by being in a pocket or similar, close to the body. A watch might have a better chance of good reception, being on your wrist.

I use a garmin watch but my Samsung health runs in the background on my phone. The phone always says I ran faster and about a full km more than i did. 😊

Exactly.

Ignorance is bliss, as they say.

But it doesn't make you a better runner.

I had the same issue using Strava on my smartphone alongside my Garmin watch. Pace and distance considerably higher when logged on my phone. And yes it's disappointing. ☹️

I no longer log anything on my phone but use my watch and have set it up to automatically synch back to Strava

I used Strava today alongside my Garmin vívoactive and yes Garmin shows a minute slower per km and less distance 😳 oh well at least that's confirmed, thanks to these posts I'm a definite 🐌! 🤣
