After asking a question I’d have known the answer to if I’d read the faqs for Lejog I noticed that you can record your steps as evidence. Until now I’ve only submitted an actual ‘walk’ or ‘run’ activity but some days I’m just busy so have quite a high step count but no recorded event as such. What’s your thoughts? What are you doing? I’m still not sure how the leader has managed over 400 miles! 😳 My step count would help but not that much!! 😆 Think I’m overthinking this!
How are you recording your distances for Lej... - Bridge to 10K
How are you recording your distances for Lejog??
I am just recording runs and walks on Garmin, which is synced to Strava/End to End club so no need to submit separate evidence.
However, whereas before I didn't record short walks, I just made sure to get 10000 steps a day, I am now switching on my Garmin for all walks.
If you want to record steps you will have to submit screen shots as evidence because they are not picked up by Strava
I’m tempted to do that - not all the time - but just when I’ve had the girls to look after so I’m busy but not actually going out for a walk. Might start that next week - trying to convince myself it’s ok. 🤷♀️ I’ve worked out that if I’d gone with steps every day I’d be over 67 miles whereas I’ve only logged 35 so far!
Hello Sybilw, I've been logging my runs and the longer dog walks . Just do what suits you . I take it you would need to convert your step count into miles then post the evidence.
As for the leaderboard as far as i can gather the person in first place has been logging runs and walks but also starting his watch at the beginning of a shift and letting it run for 8 hours at a time.
Anyway I'm just enjoying the challenge and will be so pleased to get that tshirt and medal . 😊😊
Garmin automatically converts your steps to kilometers so that’s not a problem. It’s just I had my head round recorded walks so it FEELS like cheating. The leader is very impressive. Just wanted to hear the consensus view. I think I will do the steps from now on though as it is how active you are - not how much time you have to get out. I’m meeting a friend when we reach Scotland for some shortbread. Want to join us? 😆
Oh yes, well I'm already here anyway🤣
My steps suggest a lot of unrecorded milage, small walks add up real quickly.
There are people out there who cover huge milage... I guess the average postie would find the challenge pretty easy, and I know people who are above 100 miles a week as their regular running. There are also people on NRC who are blatantly cheating, once someone logged 124 miles in the first 6 hours of a challenge, I guess logging on several apps and a watch. Not worth thinking about any of these folk... it’s your challenge, and your journey to that finish line.
I think that’s why I asked - didn’t want to feel I was cheating, despite seeing it described clearly in the guidelines 🤷♀️ I’m organising a shortbread boost for us once we cross the border (I’m from the Lockerbie area) if you’d like some. Just read you’ve been there before!!
If you take the steps, it’s not cheating! If we use the same device that records runs and walks to measure steps, then the reported distance estimate would be pretty accurate, especially for devices that automatically detect what activity you’re doing (move IQ on Garmin) if you don’t record a walk.
Hi - I am going to log the runs and the dog walks I record on my Garmin Sybilw. I think I might get confused if I start having to convert steps too (but as they accumulate during my walks I guess that might be unfair anyway 😕). Good luck for tomorrow - I have my bib at the ready!
If you have Garmin it does the conversion for you. Just look at your daily details and click the arrow at the side of your step count - it will say how far you’ve travelled. It will make a difference - make the challenge more possible in fact. Hope that helps. Oh and “many a mickle makes a muckle “ 🤣
Hey Sybilw! 🤗
Through a little trial and error, I’ve concluded that submitting and uploading my total step count the next day is the best way for me.
I don’t run everyday, so I need the steps too. I don’t get too many steps if I don’t do a deliberate walk, but as I’m on a running plan now, I figure it will all add up a bit. It’s all movement. 😁❤️
I think that’s my conclusion - it’s not a measure of how much time you can earmark for exercise - it’s how active you are. I cover a lot of ground entertaining 3 youngsters and as you say it all adds up.
Yes!! That’s a lot of activity! It’s all about being healthy! I’m going with whatever is recorded each day. My pal Garmin has a ‘move (it)’ buzz notification and I’m making a game of it by doing some kind of pacing, jumping, dancing when it goes off, until he goes on his merry way to check in on someone else 😂. My son asked me what I was doing today. ‘Is it something to do with that watch?’ 🙄😳🤣🤣
‘I’m very happy with my game’ I told him😂😁❤️!!
