Trail race

My holiday to the Canary Islands is cancelled so I seem to have “accidentally” signed up to do a 10k trail race in the woods across from my childhood home where we used to play and walk the dogs and take boyfriends if we wanted to get away from parents 😊. My nice new trail shoes have arrived this morning and now I’m starting to panic. I run 3k most days, with at least one longer run of 5-8km at the weekends. I have done 10km four times now over the last few months, but always on tarmac. I have a couple of trail routes in mind, both are about 2km from home. Do I run there or drive and concentrate the whole time on trail? How much running should I be doing? Can I expect to be able to just continue my normal routine but on trail instead of tarmac or is it going to be really hard on my legs (ankles in particular). Maybe I should do a mix of tarmac and trail over the next two weeks? What would you do???

Sounds great! I love trails! 💕 Personally, I would do a mix of tarmac and trails initially - just to get your legs used to the different terrain! Trails are great at working different muscles and although you may have to look out for the odd trip hazard and negotiate the different surfaces such as grass, mud, roots etc, I find they are generally kinder on the knees and give your body a break from the repetitive movement used on roads. So much more beautiful too! What race have you entered btw? Good luck and enjoy!
