So thanks to RunaroundSue I did it. I've signed up for the LeJOG 4 virtual run. It starts on the 17th of August and I've got until August 2021 to complete 874 miles.

So combining my running and dog walks to complete it.

I've just received my confirmation email and there is more information to follow. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Excellent. I am combining walks and runs

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10 in reply toRunaroundSue

I thought it was running only until I read it properly and the dog gets plenty walks so its great i can add them in 😊👍

RunaroundSue profile image
RunaroundSueGraduate10 in reply toBuddy34

It would be tough for me if it was running only. Although I might add an extra column on my spreadsheet to track just runs as a comparison :)

Excellent plan

Buddy34 profile image

Thank you. At first I thought the distance was a bit much but with added dog walks it should be okay.

How are you🤗🤗

Bit nervous about the clips coming out tomorrow 😕

This sounds fun Buddy. Great to have something long term to work towards. What a great idea 😊🏃‍♀️🐶🐾

Yes it is great and as there are no real races going on for the foreseeable I thought why not 😊

RunaroundSue profile image
RunaroundSueGraduate10 in reply toBuddy34

And any real races you do will count towards it.

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10 in reply toRunaroundSue

To be honest I wouldn't want to take part in anything just now anyway😊

RunaroundSue profile image
RunaroundSueGraduate10 in reply toBuddy34

Nor me. I was just thinking that there is a year to finish the challenge. Things might start again before the end, although I don't expect it to be anytime soon

Good luck! Every mile counts. Jeffing is encouraged! 👍😁👍

I keep thinking that I will try this but don't really know how to start, eg what intervals to use.

I am not sure how to time it. I can set intervals on my garmin, but I can't hear the alarm (even when not listening to my mp3 :) )

I wonder if I can find a podcast to download.

Katnap profile image
KatnapGraduate10 in reply toRunaroundSue

You could always choose C25K app and re-do the same intervals.

The Gym Boss app allows you to create your own intervals and add sound effects.

Fun!

Yes, I was just looking at Gymboss. I think I will give that a go.

Hi Buddy and RunaroundSue

I saw this on face book last night on an "end to end" Facebook page, but I think it's linked to lejog. I fancy doing this too, I thought it would give me extra encouragement and would work well with runs and dog walks. Are you both signed up? I think it it would help me keep focused if others are doing it too. 😊

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10 in reply toCantstopmenow

Yes I signed up this morning. Go for it👍

Cantstopmenow profile image
CantstopmenowGraduate10 in reply toBuddy34

Signed up. Can't wait. Have to motivate the dog now 😁

RunaroundSue profile image
RunaroundSueGraduate10 in reply toCantstopmenow

Hi, I started the July one, but I am sure some of the August participants will overtake me :)

We can report separately and/or have a weekly update thread (like Damienair's (not) parkrun thread)

There are certainly people from all over the world doing LeJog3

RunaroundSue profile image
RunaroundSueGraduate10 in reply toIrish-John

Someone on the Facebook page just posted that they received their t-shirt and medal in the USA (they were doing LeJog1 which started in May)

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10 in reply toRunaroundSue

Wow 874 miles in a few months 💪

Irish-John profile image
Irish-JohnGraduate10 in reply toRunaroundSue

That is impressive. Furloughs and, unfortunately, outright lay offs have had a huge number of people hitting the pavement. I wonder if the Runner was putting their downtime to good use :) Whatever the motivation - that is some running! :) Does it say where in the States? :)

RunaroundSue profile image
RunaroundSueGraduate10 in reply toIrish-John

Georgia. She runs Ultras and her longest run was 500 miles in 10 days - the Last Vol State in Tennessee.

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10 in reply toRunaroundSue

Amazing. Pity we can't connect our garmin watch directly. I'm on 15000 to 25000 steps per day depending on the length of run🤣

RunaroundSue profile image
RunaroundSueGraduate10 in reply toBuddy34

I agree. That's a good step count

I wish all participants in that Lejog Lands End to John O Groats virtual run/walk all the very best, that distance of 874 miles or 1407 kilometers is equal to run/walk of 27 kilometers a week 27 K *52 weeks =1404K, so 3 more kilometers to make the full distance, good luck to you all.

RunaroundSue profile image
RunaroundSueGraduate10 in reply toAlMorr

Thanks, I am managing to clock up almost double so far. 60% is walking.

Congratulations! I’m sure you will easily complete it. It’s amazing how dog walking adds up. I managed 160k (100 miles) in May doing the This Girl Runs virtual challenge with my normal running and dog walking routine, which really surprised me!

Is it on the "Honour" system or do you have to submit a Strava-type record? I don't have any electronics and really don't want an App tracking me on my phone, I'm borrowing an Apple watch thing for (hopefully) my MC FM verification.

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10 in reply toIrish-John

On the website it days this

You will be able to upload your GPS data, Strava, Garmin, Image of your watch, treadmill record etc

Irish-John profile image
Irish-JohnGraduate10 in reply toBuddy34

Thank you Buddy. That knocks me out I'm afraid...but very best wishes to you and the others from me.

RunaroundSue profile image
RunaroundSueGraduate10 in reply toIrish-John

I already had my Garmin linked to Strava and joined the End to End club so my runs and walks are visible to them.

But if you upload screen shots I think you can use the weekly or monthly views rather than uploading individual runs every day.

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10 in reply toRunaroundSue

I will join the strava group when I get the link and its starts. Sounds so much easier 😊👍

RunaroundSue profile image
RunaroundSueGraduate10 in reply toBuddy34

I received this link. I think it originally referred to spreadsheets and monthly/weekly summaries.

Oh yes, the evidence is secondary to entering the data onto the Interactive Map, which updates almost immediately.

Cantstopmenow profile image

Hi Irish-John, I emailed them today with this question and received a reply within half an hour. Yes, you can simply take a screen shot and email the mileage to them.

Buddy34 profile image

Its sounds a lot of miles but you can log your runs and walks. So a combination of walking and running makes completing it maybe not easier but less daunting . What do you think😊

RunaroundSue profile image
RunaroundSueGraduate10 in reply toCouchpotato2

You have a year to do it. Runs and walks.

That's only 17 miles a week.

Couchpotato2 profile image
Couchpotato2 in reply toRunaroundSue

Ok but: what is the bling like? And can we work out a team finish for the last 5-10km? (Followed by champagne and cake)

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10 in reply toCouchpotato2

The photo at the top of this post shows you the medal but I'm really excited about that tshirt. Just look at it. I'm getting carried away now🤣

Couchpotato2 profile image
Couchpotato2 in reply toBuddy34

The medal is ok, not quite big enough for the achievement for my taste but yes the tshirt is great!!

RunaroundSue profile image
RunaroundSueGraduate10 in reply toCouchpotato2

I always want the tshirts, medals are less important to me

Couchpotato2 profile image
Couchpotato2 in reply toRunaroundSue

And what about a celebration cake?

Cantstopmenow profile image
CantstopmenowGraduate10 in reply toCouchpotato2

I saw it on facebook and signed up after reading buddy's post. Yes, bling, t shirt, postcards, interactive map , a well toned body and amazing bragging rights! What an achievement it will be - a magnum of champagne will be needed. 😊

I wasn't sure either when RunaroundSue first posted about this. Then I thought I've got a year i love running anyway and the dog gets between 3 and 5 miles walk every day. So quite achievable from my point of view anyway 😊😊

Hi! Today's the day... Has there been a strava or group started here? not noticed any. Or maybe we do a post for all to add too?

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10 in reply toCouchpotato2

I was wondering about setting up a strava club for people on Health Unlocked. I've never done it before but there are step by step instructions online.

RunaroundSue was putting a post on , on a Sunday that we could post what we had ran/ walked for each week. 😊👍

Couchpotato2 profile image
Couchpotato2 in reply toBuddy34

Yes, RunaroundSue says she's going to post each week on Sunday which will be great. I've just joined the Strava and Facebook for end to end. I think juju set the HM one up on Strava

Buddy34 profile image

I have joined the strava and fb for the challenge the only thing is I'm not Buddy34 on there 🤣

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10 in reply toBuddy34

I wonder if it would be easier to private message each other on here with our strava name to follow each other that way?🤔

Couchpotato2 profile image
Couchpotato2 in reply toBuddy34

Hmm you can do a group message but I think there is a limit to the number of people. I think there are about 25 of us... Maybe we can just message on Strava. I DONT KNOW!

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10 in reply toCouchpotato2

The only thing is my real name is on strava not my HU name. The only thing that's the same is Buddy my avitar👍🐶

Doing ok on this logging runs and walks , but looking at the details again ALL miles count . I can easily double my daily mileage recording all the wandering about I do .

What are you recording and submitting ?

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10 in reply toExbox

hi, Exbox . I'm recording runs and the longer dog walks 😊

Exbox profile image
Exbox

That's what I was doing , but I've already done a mile this morning without going 'out out' so I'll record everything from now on .

Yesterday I did around 5k walking the dog but by the end of the day had done 11k .

Those at the top of the leaderboard must be doing this . I know it doesn't really matter- it's not a competition - but every bit counts
