Well they weren't the magic bullet I was hoping for but I added them into the CBT approach to running - breaking it down into small steps and banishing negative thoughts. The JBs were little rewards - one every 15 mins at 30 mins onwards.
Funny thing is, for small sweets they don't half take a bit of chewing! Every time I had one I was out of puff for a minute or two. Didn't expect that!!!
Anyways that's 9k in the bag now! Woohoo!!!

Well I had to develop my technique as I went. First one went straight in the gob but it seemed to suck all the oxygen out of me - went down fighting! Number 2 I went for the head, puff puff chew, followed by the other half. Third one I took in little nips - about 4 I think - which was just about right!
Can't believe I'm discussing my jelly baby technique - must be the endorphins. π€£π€£π€£
Well done, sorry to hear the jelly babies took such hard work - forgot to say I just suckvthem to death π€ͺ so close now to your 10k, exciting. Happy running π€
Get in!!!!! Fabulous news Fionamags!! You are doing so well. It's amazing and seems like only 5 minutes ago we were rudderless and looking for new purpose., not quite managing 5kπ₯΄. Look how far you've come....4k actually ππ but in terms of the journey it's unbelievable. So proud my VRB! That 10 k awaits and another milestone. More power to your legs. ππππ
Yes I think a virtual HM will be about the extent of it. I'll do it on my computer rather than my legs!!!! Feeling pretty weary and not sure I want to extend the distance any further. I think 10k will do me fine. Would need to get a lot faster/fitter before considering going further as it would just take hours!
Good 9K run for you today Fionamags powered up by Jelly Babies, I tried them when I was running 12K but all they did for me was make me thirsty so from now on I will keep to water π¦ or a diluted fruit drink for my runs.
I tried those on Sunday. I can't say they gave me any noticeable advantage. But anything worth a try. Bag almost empty now as I forgot to hide them from hubbyππ
Haribos are made in heaven by running πΌ. I canβt buy those heavenly little suckers...I canβt trust myself not to wolf the whole packet. Even tried those wee individual packs. Trouble is With the wee packs...they come in a bigger packet π₯΄. Haribos rock.
Brilliant run, well done, I was definitely like yourself with haribo strawberries, am putting jelly babies on the shopping list but will remember to suck!!
Fantastic run Fiona. I am now on the injury bench and gutted. I had got to 55 minutes of running. I think I have got Peroneal tendonitis. I have had a week of rest and strengthening exercises and tried a 20 minute run this morning. I got to 16 minutes and the ankle started to ache again. Going to give running a break for at least 2 weeks concentrating on cycling to try and maintain fitness. What is so sad is that I am visiting my daughter this weekend for the first time since before lockdown. I was so looking forward to running with her. I am sure there will be other times.
I'm so sorry to hear that - what rotten timing. But you need to hang in there until you're ready. You'll be back at it and sporting that new badge in no time. Xxx
I really hope so, I am gutted π’. Glad you have returned. I am worried about losing fitness as I had made such progress. I am in my 60βs now and need to maintain fitness.
Yay well done you, 9k... so close. I haven't felt the need to snack while running yet but it's interesting to hear everyone's experiences.. see if I can pick up some pointers π looking forward to the 10k post when you're ready to add that extra k
Well done on your 9k run. 10 is just round the corner. Iβm a jelly baby eater on longer runs. I bite the head first (gruesome) and then eat the rest in 2. I think they mentally help and are also a distraction when youβre feeling tired ππΌ
I had a friend who was a Psychiatrist years ago who used them with his patients.
When I asked them how that worked, he gave me one and told me to bite it. I did and he snatched it back. Then he explained....
" John, if you'd bitten the head off - it would mean you are a psychopath.
This feet - You'd have an inferiority complex.
The chest - very maternal and nurturing.
The Backside - Servile creepy personality. "
"HOWEVER" he went on, "I've never even heard, John, of anyone who screams 'stop looking at me!" and bites the Jellybabys eyes out ...."
Seriously though, I carry wine gums on long runs and eat one every mile, it's worked very well for me on a number of levels. Last HM I did, I distracted myself from being tired the last few miles by trying to guess what colour wine gum would be next
Well done Fionamags, π I think chewing a jelly baby would muck up your breathing that youβve got into a rhythm with no wonder you were out of puff chewing them, great distance though, very impressive ππ»ππ»
