Meh!

That pretty much sums up today's run. The distance, 5k, was OK. The time, 32:15 was nothing special but by no means poor based on my usual pace. I certainly want trying for any form of PB either on terms of distance or time, but I still felt somewhat deflated after it.

If it had been my plan simply to run 5k, I'm pretty sure I'd have been happy with it; box ticked, achievement unlocked, job done. The trouble was that, while I had no specific distance in mind, I had set out expecting, no, intending to run further but by the time I got to 5k, my enthusiasm had evaporated and I plodded wearily home as my 5 minute cool down.

As I said, not a bad run by any standards, and one that I'd normally be happy enough with but today has just felt a bit flat.

Ah well, I'm sure normal service will resume soon.

I had one of those runs a couple of weeks ago, except I gave up at 4Km

I have been better since

The mind was more or less willing but the body just couldn't be bothered.

I think I was the other way round. I was running well at first, then as I was grinding to a halt I realised that I had forgotten to switch on my mp3 - it took me 3.5k to notice :)

Didn't give up, more took 4k and rested up!

Hey sTrongFuse ...that is a very respectable run indeed!!! I wish I could run 5k in that time believe me...I know what you mean though...running out of steam is a bit disappointing when you set out to cover a certain distance, maybe whatever you did yesterday has made a difference to your stamina today?? Hydration, food, sleep, all these things add up and it only takes one thing sometimes to make a real diffrerence. You have run 5k today and run for nearly 33 minutes, which is probably something you never thought you were capable of not so long ago??? Read back on some of your old posts, they make an interesting read...and a very successful runner has emerged since you joined the forum...be kind to yourself, bank what you did today and take it out with you next time 😊

Not sure what it was, just never really clicked into gear for me today.

With you there, Mc. I’d give my right leg to run 5km in that time. Or perhaps not .....

3 miles buddy, with a tinge of disappointment that I and fellow runners understand. Decent time still 😁 so maybe think in blocks of runs (per week, 2 weeks or month) so that each run still retains its importance. That way you still come away feeling that you've added something to the bank. Plus you know you've got lots more in the tank so rest up and go again. Keep Adding!

I know, it's a good problem to have and I'm just grumbling. It is all miles on the clock, as you say, but I just get used to getting a lift from my runs, so when that doesn't happen, for whatever reason, I feel a bit cheated.

Poor you, blame it on the new shoes, they were sending poor vibes. As you say it’s still 5k. Something in the air today. I had a similar 5k today. There’s always the next one. Happy running 🤗

Don't think it was the shoes really, more that I just couldn't quite find my zone.

See, this is why it's good to post on here , the reasons being it let's you write down how you felt about the run . Also I think it helps others by letting us know that we all can get a run sometimes that just doesn't feel right.

I had 2 of these runs last week and wondered what I was doing wrong. Like you I also felt deflated . The other 2 were better and so was yesterdays.

Hope the next one feels better for you. 😊🏃‍♂️

Last time I felt like this I went out and did a 10 miler as a "recovery" so we'll just have to see what happens.

Those runs happen, we put them behind us and hope the next one is amazing, we had a series of meh runs when everyone and their world were picnicking in our favourite running park

Best of luck for the next run

Thanks. I suspect it's really just my body telling me to take some extra rest

yes it really could be just that, we took a week off in December for no other reason than i was working extra it was cold dark wet and windy, when we did run it was amazing, lovely fresh legs springing along, take a rest and you will fly

That’s a great run SF. Shame you didn’t enjoy it. ☹️ I’m sure you’ll love your next one. 😀

I had the worst run on the planet a couple of weeks ago. I simply (as my kids say) CBA but I carried on to 5k in a foul mood. It was super windy and I actually didn’t want to run any more, which never happens to me. Believe me, your run is epic in comparison. Mine was sooo slow because I could almost not be bothered to pick my feet up.

Since then I’ve had some lovely runs. You will too. 👍

They just happen sometimes, don't they? This was definitely a bit of a CBA effort. The whole time I was "recalculating" my route to give myself outs that meant I'd be close enough to home for my cool down walk.

Thankfully they’re few and far between otherwise I’m not sure we’d all be running as much! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️👋👋

I feel that quite often, I now look at it as a nice walk. In fact I’ve been planning, if this weather cheers up again, to go on my 10k run route but only run 5k and take in the scenery on the way back. If I meet people I do feel I have to jog though as I’m all kitted our in running gear😂

sTrongFuse profile image
sTrongFuseGraduate10 in reply to Kat332zz

I do that sometimes. And, let's be brutally honest "only" running 5k is a pretty good problem to have.

That’s a shame. At least you got out and did a run . Look at all the amazing runs you’ve done recently and pretend it was one of those instead 😂. Bet you have a great run next time 👍🏼

I know. I think it's just that I've come to expect a certain "something" from my runs and, on those rare occasions that it's not forthcoming, it's a bit of a let down.
