Changing of the guard...

After a little over 8 months and a little under 740 km, it is time for me, sadly, to send my trusty old Brooks Ghosts off to the great retirement home for running shoes in the sky...

Fair thee well, faithful companions, your watch is ended...

Tonight, in recognition of it being Global Running Day, it is time to take their successors out for their maiden lollop. It's fair to say they have a tough act to follow...

The Ghosts are dead! Long live the Ghosts!

I am playing funeral music for those dearly beloved departing shoes, so sad to say farewell to them..... A one minute silence.....

BUT welcome to your new shoes which you will run in this evening, I am now playing music for running, by the way I ran for Global Running Day my 7th 10K.

Well done. I'm heading out after work. Been taking a break since I finished #MilesForMind on Friday and been giving my new bike a shakedown these past couple of evenings. At least it'll be cooler, which should be pleasant.

Lovely new shoes, the old ones do look like they deserve retrial 🤣🤣 enjoy your world running day lollop with a spring in your step. Happy running 🤗

The old once certainly don't owe me anything. It's really just been in the last couple of weeks that they have noticeably deteriorated.

You've ran plenty km's in your old shoes now it just time for the new ones. Good luck with your first run in your new shoes🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️

The new ones have a lot to live up to, but they got off to a good start.

I too am a big fan of the Brooks Ghost 12. Bought a new pair in anticipation of the old ones breaking down soon, so your post made me laugh out loud 😂 I shall also observe a minutes silence when the old Ghost finally ‘gives up the ghost’!

My local running shop is closed due to Covid, but is still doing mail order. Since I knew 12s fitted and were comfortable, it was easy to buy them online knowing they'd be right for me. Just glad they hadn't discontinued that model or I'd be stuck using my trail shoes until their shop opened again.

What surprised me was how quickly their final deterioration progressed. At the start of the week before last week, I'd noticed a few deep crease lines across the bridge and along the sides, by the end of last week, they were how you see them in the photo. At least it wasn't a long, drawn out, "can I squeeze any more out of them?" situation.

It is incredible the amount of miles covered and I wish you and your new pair lots of enjoyable runs ahead.

We definitely seem to have got off on the right foot (and the left for that matter, too...)

Do you have a plan other than the bin for the old shoes? Like you, I ran in my new ones yesterday for the first time and it just feels awful to chuck the old ones in a bin bag...

They will go toy local recycling centre. Sadly there isn't much else that they are fit for.
