I completed by first 35 min run of the 10k plan on Friday. This morning was 15 minutes. I’m running along enjoying the countryside and a gentle sea breeze with my music on when I hear “hello”. Am I hearing things? Again “hello mate”. I think is my mobile phone line or FaceTime open? It sounds like my dopey son in law. Then I realise it’s coming from behind me. A young runner half my age coming up fast like the flying Scotsman gesticulating for me to move aside. Like an idiot I did as was told and ran into the middle of the road as Lewis Hamilton roared past me with a a thank you, nod or hands up. Then I think I’ve just run into the road without looking and besides shouldn’t he have just run past me I the road. I had been merrily minding my own business happy ad Larry. Now my run was ruined I just felt so annoyed. I know, maybe I should just chill out but I was chilled out.

I meant to write without a thank you, nod or anything.

Oh I get so annoyed, like when walkers are coming in the opposite ditto facing the oncoming traffic but don’t move so I have to run on the road with the oncoming traffic behind me. Fair enough if they have children or a dog or are old I wouldn’t expect it then but if not surely it’s common sense that whoever is facing the oncoming traffic moves towards the road? 😡

That’s so rude! Don’t let it bother you. I’m sure they got a mouthful from someone rose they did the same to!

That would have pee’ed me off too, what a rude idiot! Why didn’t HE overtake you like most normal people would? And then not to thank you 😡 grrrrrr I’m angry and it didn’t even happen to me!

Anyway, the thing is, he’s wakened up this morning and is still a prat whereas you’re a polite, well-behaved runner. Don’t let this bug you too much, he’s not worth even thinking about. Karma will sort him out one way or another......

Thanks, much appreciated. Next time I’ll act deaf. Come to think of it my hearing isn’t as good as it used to be. Nor my running for that matter. I guess I appeared like the that Japanese professor who does the slow running.

If he wanted to take over you he should have went around you and not asked you to move. Don't let others ruin your run. Have a nice day 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️

Lesson learnt. Only on my 11th week of running. Cheers

I’m laughing at the ‘dopey son-in-law’ comment. But maybe that’s a typo??

No typo but I love him really. Honest. We often call each other much worse - it’s just banter.

I don’t think he was trying to be rude at all. When I’m running along, I always shout out to people I’m coming up to to warn them that I’m coming through. I’d never expect anyone to jump out of the way, just maybe move to one side a bit. There’s nothing worse than unexpectedly running past someone and then getting the fright of their lives.

The only thing worse is, when you’re giving it all at your most cracking pace, someone overtaking effortlessly without a bead of perspiration!

I know what you mean especially if I’d been 30 or 40 years younger haha. I was fairly decent as a 16 year old at 9 and half stone - top 50 in the northern school school x country. In the years since a sedentary lifestyle in an office and not run since until fairly recently. Now in my 60s and 15 stone. I know my limitations. 😂However, I did see a documentary recently on Zola Budd and Mary Dekker which ended with them doing a little reconciliation jog at about my speed. Mary’s legs and ankles are knackered but I bet Zola could have seriously upped the pace.

Good point. The footpath was quite narrow and only really wide enough I think for one person to run on. I think two people walking could have passed each other fairly easily side to side sort of. I guess it just came out of the blue and listening to music i couldn’t really get it. I sometimes pass people walking along the same stretch and just run onto the road to run around them. I’ve had a couple of days now and know I shouldn’t take it too personally. Many thanks.
