Negotiating with legs

It’s not as if I hadn’t given them due notice: as we plodded up the stairs last night I said “tomorrow we do the one hour three hill run”. They didn’t say anything. Dumb insolence it’s called

This morning they protested. “We’re really, really tired. Yesterday you walked us 2 hours in the hills”.

They’re always ruddy tired but they had a point.

“What about the 30 minute consolidation run?”

They had a talk between themselves, shrugged and agreed.

“But I expect a stellar performance”.

“We’ll try our best “

“There’s is no try” I said “ only do or not do. And I’m using the metronome”

They quaked.

But the boys done good. 29 minutes 35 seconds. Best this year.

And they’re getting a rest until Wednesday when it’ll definitely be the one hour 3 hill run.

I have conversations with mine at the tail end of my long runs - I sometimes feel like I’m carrying them as opposed to them carrying me! But they haven’t let me down yet. Keep being nice to them and they’ll take you to some wonderful places. 💪
