Hi everyone π
I hope you and your loved ones are coping as well as possible with this virus and the lockdown. Thankfully no-one I know has any symptoms, though several of my friends can't say the same and I know of people that have passed away from COVID-19 π
So this morning, after a nice run on Thursday, I thought I would do a bit of interval running. I'm using a treadmill whilst on lockdown that I'm lucky enough to have. It's rather old and the speed just goes up in kmph from 0 - 12. To make the below easier to understand here is a small conversion chart with kmph converted to minutes per km (take the numbers with a little salt):
12kmph = 5:00 | 11kmph = 5:45| 10kmph = 6:00| 9kmph = 7:06
I'm not completely sure it is actually 12kmph / 5 minutes per km at the fastest setting on my treadmill - in my run this morning I managed to be doing at one point 3:50 per km. I decided I would run at 9kmph for 5 minutes, then at 10kmph for 5 minutes, then at 11kmph for 5 minutes, then back to 9. I quickly found that really I only needed a minute of 9 so went in cycles of 1 minute at 9 followed by 5 of 10 and 5 of 11. I only went to 12kmph for the odd minute here and there, to experience how fast it was.
I had no intention of reaching 10k at all but I carried on plodding along. The timings nicely finished at 11kmph from 50:54 -50:59 and then a minute of 9kmph to finish an hour. However, once I reached an hour and saw I had got as far as around 9.74 km if I recall correctly, I decided to carry on plodding along at 9kmph until I reached 10k. My Garmin Connect app tells me it took me 1 hour 3 minutes exactly (see my picture for the stats).
So yes a fantastic run. My max bpm was 203 with an average of 191 bpm so that'll have done me some good π
I tried to take a selfie after the run of a very happy me to put above, but my 'smart' phone wouldn't take a picture. Due to the sporadic nature of it not taking photos I'm starting to think it's only letting me take pictures it deems as worth storing π€
I wanted to share some nice news anyway, I hope your runs are going well. I am conscious that I wouldn't have found the experience quite the same running outdoors, though this wasn't exactly easy π
Much love,
Mike
