Today was different, the girls haven't gone to school ( happy teen-agers). Mrs Wife has scooted them to school to collect study work just to keep their young minds active!
I laced up my trainers and headed out. It's noticeably quiet, the roads have less traffic, the normal dog walkers aren't out and about on the towpath.
The only evidence of other human activity is when I run by the local supermarket. The carpark is full. Trolleys loaded like it's Christmas and some. Is there really a need. We're not going to starve, we just need to be sensible.
If we stop and just think, then remember we're Great Britain, that's Great with a capital G. This virus it will be beaten! We've got some brilliant minds out their working around the clock. And time is ticking until they along with other colleagues around the world will announce a cure/vacine and the loo roll aisle will be full once more.
Thankfully we're not in lockdown we can get out, we can do our bit to stay healthy, we can do our bit to check on elderly neighbours etc. Let's show that spirit that made us the country we are.
Well said! I read a psychologist report a few weeks ago on why some people are stockpiling loo rolls of all things. He explained that it was something that people at first think they really need in a time of crisis but loo paper is obviously not critical for life and so once they realise we may face a more serious life threatening situation they start to focus on things like food and water and the stock piling of loo paper will stop.
Interesting times indeed....... but we actually need this for balance in the world....
I agree. This will bring everything into perspective for a lot of people. I managed to buy the last bottle of bleach this morning. No pasta, no cheese, no milk, no loo roll (obviously) but I read this morning on someone else's post we do have showers to clean our bums with! Also no liquid soap which made me think a bit - why did I switch to liquid soap? All that plastic! I might just go back to the good old bar of soap where the only thing you threw away was a bit of paper.
You asked if there was a need Imc. Of course there isn’t and it’s so sad that people feel they have to clear the shelves this way. Wonder what they’ll do in 6 months when they still can’t get into the back room because it’s full of loo rolls, pasta etc?! Hey ho, keep sane folks and stay well! Happy running when we can!
It’s madness. We are having to self-isolate at present. A neighbour went to get us some eggs, flour and potatoes - and came back with none of those. All sold out. It’s very sobering.
It’s a bit bah humbug but the reason we are called ‘Great’ is because we have a ‘greater’ landmass than Scotland and Ireland. It certainly isn’t because of our shopping habits in a crisis, anyway...
Well said lmc50 - kindness goes a long way in these mad times. As we get use to this ‘new normal’ hopefully people will calm down & stop stock piling. I’m going for a run this afternoon to help clear my head & keep sane. Happy running all x
Very rousing Imc....also, amazing time!I looong for a sub 30 5K or a sub 60 10K, one day my friend, one day 😉
You're a mere whipper snapper Run46 you'll be leaving me behind in your dust trail soon I guarantee it after all my little legs are 1/2 century old at present or 25yrs per limb 🤔
