Just a reminder not to forget that this weekend is our BIG 50 parkrun (but not parkrun) event! Saturday 27th February marks the 50th week since parkruns were called to a halt. So we're putting our red 50 shirts/red shirts/anything that you may have to hand and getting out there and marking the occasion in whatever way we think is appropriate or is personal to our current stage of running.
Since I wrote that post things are looking more and more positive, and whilst I'm trying to err on the side of caution (especially as the parkrun return announcement history isn't the best) there is a little flutter of hope inside my belly that we will see it's return in the coming months. That must be extra exciting for those of you who haven't yet been able to go to a live event! The parkrun blog yesterday said that they would be saying more on Friday, so I'd look out for that and listen to the Free, Weekly, Timed podcast as that is also where they like to make their announcements.
So, I'm really looking forward to Saturday! Our parkrun had it's 5th birthday last Saturday and we all chatted on Facebook and lots more logged their (not)parkruns than usual. I felt that familiar feeling of community and coming together that this is also reminding me of.
One last word of caution (which I'm sure you don't need reminding) remember to choose a different route to you official parkrun where possible and if you can't, don't go for a 9am start. We need to be especially careful now not to upset the apple cart for any potential parkrun return. Just do what you've been doing brilliantly: enjoy your 5k (or whatever time/distance you choose) your way and have lots of fun commemorating what will hopefully be the last big milestone before we see the UK parkruns emerge into the light once again (*touch wood*, cross fingers, don't walk under ladders!!).

Was I tempting fate when I wrote my first post to you TailChaser, 3 weeks ago, I have just looked at my post back then, I said I would 'run' it in 50 minutes, but that was BEFORE I got a sore right leg, a mild version of Sciatica which for the last two weeks has slowed me down to walking pace, for my 49th (not) parkrun last Saturday I had to walk for the first time ever, this Saturday that 50 minutes maybe for real, my leg is slightly less sore but I doubt at the moment if I could run it sub 35 minutes as I have done for all my (not) and official parkrun 5K's up to December last year, I certainly will do it on Saturday, whether I can run, I'll find out on Saturday.
Oh how frustrating Al! Knowing you I am sure you will take part no matter how you have to do it but I do hope you can do it in the way you choose rather than what your pain level dictates. Fingers crossed for your 50th (not)parkrun. I hope you feel better very soon.
I don't feel too bad at all thanks TailChaser, usually I go a mid-week run on a Wednesday morning, this morning I went for a short 3K walk, walking quite briskly, after the walk, my legs feel OK, better than they did last week, so hopefully, I may be able to run a little of my 50th virtual (not) parkrun on Saturday.
I am feeling very well indeed thanks Sue, I can do everything but run, I did my other exercises such as planks, push and sit ups and a few kettle bell swing exercises too, so hopefully the runs will resume soon, this morning I went a short brisk 3K walk, after the walk my legs didn't feel too bad.
Thanks TailChaser, Iβve got my 50 Parkrun t-shirt ready to go on Saturday. Iβll be running along the seafront, starting at 9:00am!πββοΈπ
Here we go BS: parkrun.org.uk It is basically an organised 5km run or walk happening each Saturday morning throughout the world. Most are not happening at the moment due to COVID but some, like NZ and Australia started again a couple of months ago.
Doesnβt look like there are any in Belgium (yet) but the Netherlands started only a couple of years ago.
Parkruns are 5K runs which take place on Saturday morning's around 9 o'clock, some countries are a bit later at 9.30, others such as New Zealand start at 8 am.Most take place in parks but some take place in open places away from roads, you can, run, jog or walk 5K if you want to, for further details go to the Vitality Parkrun Website. (at the moment they are suspended because of Covid 19)
