Totally forgot to post about this... So at the start of this year I signed up for the half marathon event in my home town and spent pretty much the whole 8 months (apart from the occasional parkrun and 10km race) following a running plan generated by trainasone to get myself as ready for it as I could be... Unfortunately the week of the event the organisers were left in a position where they had to cancel the event (most likely financial but it's not 100% clear)

Thankfully the organisers of the Manchester Half Marathon opened up additional spaces as a free transfer for people who had been due to run in the cancelled race so long as they could provide proof of purchase and pay a few quid to cover the cost of posting the race numbers out.

I had a very sore throat on the day (which turned in to full on man flu a couple of days later), but very happy with my time 🙂

Hard work and training totally paid off for me! On the day I tried to pace myself to under 2hours, I didn't quite manage it as the last 2 miles were very tough, but I'm confident I can do it at some point in the future 👍🏻

I'm not quite 100% yet, still a bit of a lingering runny nose but I'm getting there 🙂 thanks!

Sleeves and gloves are brilliant for runny noses while running 😉

Amazing run... and that’s while coming down with a virus? Great job... and lovely of Manchester to accommodate runners who’d had their race cancelled.

Yeah it was a really nice gesture of them! I haven't planned to do any more HMs yet, I don't think it's anything I'll be doing regularly (much prefer 10ks!), but maybe once a year 🙂 I'll definitely do at least one more, I got so close to going sub 2 that I can't leave it at that 😂

I wouldn’t have thought that virus didn’t take at least those 31 seconds off your pace, probably more!

I hear you on the 10k, I love the distance, but a HM once a year will help with the pace for them, so I think that’s a great plan. I’m considering my options a little, but thinking of keeping a 10 miler in my run rotation, then I can have the extra legs for my 10k while being able to be HM ready whenever I like with a couple of week’s notice.

That sounds sensible. The plan I'm using at the moment changes with my performance while keeping in mind the races that I've got coming up, it's anecdotal of course but I feel like it's worked really well for me, last year my best 5k was 33:45 and I've brought that right down now to just under 24 minutes, that was a mix of using the Garmin coach 5k plan before then switching to trainasone.

Took a bit of getting used to at first because sometimes it gets me to literally run for less than 15 minutes some days, my original reaction was "what's the point of that?" but it's all about active recovery and not stressing the body to the point of injury.

I’m on an adaptive too, and those short ones do a great job... my runs next week are all very short as it’s taper time. The plan has definitely worked though, so I’ll go back on one late winter when I’ve worked out what my first event will be... with a bigger milage base to work from it’ll be interesting to see what it does.
