Juju Week 7 - Treat

The penultimate week of the Juju plan and I can’t believe how quickly the weeks have flown by and it’s getting emotional as I’ll be looking to hit 10k next week in the grand finale!

So this lunchtime I took a trip to my local Decathlon and grabbed myself a long sleeve running top, with a thermal lining not bad for £7.99! Will definitely come in handy tomorrow for parkrun which I’m expecting to be wet, windy and muddy! Ugh!

Great price for a running top... gotta love Decathlon.

Wet, windy, muddy parkrun... sounds perfect... enjoy!

I grabbed some light trail shoes there last week and they’re amazing for the money... may not last as long as the big brands, but time will tell.

They offer good guarantees too. I picked up a pair of road running shoes for £29.99, they have a 2 year guarantee!

I run in Decathlon shoes, the road ones, they are surviving very well. Cost me 30€. Can't argue with that really.

Since maybe week 7 of c25k or there abouts when my others fell apart

They've taken me on treadmill and on road up to 16k, just a bit slippy on the mud last weekend during my 10k event but just great on roads/hard dirt

There’s a video on YouTube of a South African guy reviewing their £10 running shoes... nice pristine pair that he’s saying are great... then he produces the worn pair that have done 750km including a marathon. I’m sure they’re not suitable for all runners, and decathlon only spec them for 30 minutes once or twice a week... but if they’re the right shoe they’re the right shoe!

I was shopping for day to day trainers, but thought that my road Pegasus pairs weren’t gonna be too good in the mud at Lyme Park last week, and my free RNs were gonna be worse than useless, so I found myself in the running aisle.

I could spend a fortune in Decathlon...but at their prices I would have loads of stuff at least

Yes absolutely that too! I see runners with shoes that are very knackered but they swear they don’t need replacing and no other shoes will do.

Have a look online they have various colours! Always nice to see the product in store though to get a feel for it! xx

Thank you. It was wet, it was windy, it was muddy... but I got through it, I think the new running top helped! 🙂

Well done, it really is awful out there. I still need to do my 8k and can’t decide whether to head out in a minute or leave it until tomorrow afternoon when the forecast is slightly better!

Well, sadly that didn’t go to plan!!! 😕

I headed out in light refreshing rain, determined to go really slowly, which I managed very successful 7.17 mins.

However, the pain I have been feeling, which I thought was my hips became suddenly so painful I had to stop at 3.5k. I walked a little and gave my top outer thigh a good rub and decided to carry on. However I had to give up at 4k. There is running with a little discomfort and there is running in pain and I’m not going to do that.

So back home I went feeling very deflated. I can honestly hardly remember the days when I would run without any discomfort other than not being able to breathe! 🤣. It’s all getting rather frustrating!

Oh no I’m sorry, good job you listened to yourself and knew when to end the run. I hope you can tend to it and it’s nothing too serious. Have a couple days rest?

Yes I think I might take a week or two off. Just do strength exercises and a couple of yoga classes a week and then start the magic plan again.

Really not sure what to do. I haven’t really been right since I started so maybe I just need to get completely right before doing anything else 😕

Will be here cheering everyone else on though as they finish.

Strengthening and Yoga seems like a good idea, the yoga will balance the body out a bit. Sometimes our body just cried for a break when we are going hard week after week of running. They say you should take a week out every couple of months. I have done this few times had a week's rest or done shorter runs. It can be hard when it gets addictive I know. I think you are going to listen to your body so take it a day at a time xx

Thanks. I have only taken a break of 5 days since I started C25K at the beginning of June so maybe I do need to give my body some time to strengthen and heal properly.

My goal is to run the GSR next October (10 miles) so I have plenty of time. After that I see myself as being a regular 5k runner.

Anyway, I shall enjoy the rest in this horrible weather.
