I am struggling today. Stuck on IC with ankle. Dodgy knees feeling achy because I can't run and they actually hurt more now when I don't run regularly. Not sure whether it is worth even starting again if I get ankle sorted. Was so proud and got to 8.5k and now feel like giving up. And tontop it all off the motivation I had to start has turned out to be a pipe dream. Sorry for moan.
Giving up. : I am struggling today. Stuck on... - Bridge to 10K
Giving up.
Have a wallow...we all need one sometimes
But then get back out there once your ankle is sorted. It is so easy to give up sometimes, especially with the bad weather and the darker days, but you are stronger than that. If you weren't you wouldn't have gotten to 8 5k.
Your knees need you to run : )
Please don’t apologise. I’m feeling the same, so bloody proud and then it feels like it will all be lost. Don’t give up, you’ve achieved so much. My mentor tells me that when we love it so much as part of our lives it’s never lost. You will get back on it, I will get back on it and we will be fabularse daaahling!! 😍😍😍
Really hope to see you back running. Have you seen a physio? Going forwards some strengthening work will help, and they’re the guys to suggest the right exercises while injured.
The IC sucks, and motivation is very difficult to maintain when you can’t do what you’re motivated to do. Find some seated cardio for an endorphin fix.
It’s not a pipe dream at all - you did it - not only getting to 5k, but to 8.5k! You are a runner now, runners occasionally get injuries. Please don’t give up! I totally understand your frustration, but don’t lose hope. I read on here that once you graduate, you’ve only been running for about 8 hours in total (?), so you’re still a very new runner and can easily get injured.
Have you seen a GP? I went to a sports physio but I’ve now seen that our GPS have a musculoskeletal physio you can self-refer to so I could have done that. Maybe yours does too? Or if not, try the GP him/herself.
Don’t lose faith, you’ll get back to it. You’re a runner now and your body will appreciate the tlc. Do this for yourself! 💪🏻
You will give up. One day you’ll say stop. Only not today. Because today we’re here together, you maybe not feel like, but we’re making friends to each other, holding each other’s hand, and carry on. Together.
Oh no LUHAN ...this sounds to me like you really, really want to carry on running and something like this can really set you back and make you lose confidence... but it needn’t...you don’t have to stop running...if you’ve got up to 8.5k you are already a runner...this is a blip, that’s all. Have you seen a physio? I am sure this can be sorted and while you’re on the IC you might just want to do some stretching to keep your muscles flexible..see the pinned posts on C25k.. Oldfloss has a strength and flex community that you will def benefit from visiting...take care..and I’m sure, once the ankle is sorted, your mojo will return x
And never apologise for putting your feelings out there, we can all relate to them, that’s what we’re here for 😉
Get some help. I was the same. Swollen ankles made me stop. I went to see a chiropractor and seem to be right as rain again now. You’ll be fine once you get to root of the issue sorted.
Don't give up ❤️
LUHAN
Everyone is giving you such good advice and sharing their personal stories. Injuries happen and mentally and physically everyone deals with them in their own way. But we're all here to support you and each other. xxx
Thank you for everyone's kind replies and support. I apologise for sounding so defeatist...I know there are a lot of others on this forum who have faced and are facing a lot more serious issues than I am. I have made a physio appointment for Wednesday so I'll keep my fingers crossed for positive news. Thank you again. X
There is no reason to give up. Injuries? Everyone gets them. Even super fit top level athletes get them all the time. Injuries are fixable, and any good physio/osteopath/chiropractic will help you. Mine were well documented on this forum, knee and ankle combo nearly stopped my running but the magic of professional help, a touch of belief and a sprinkle of confidence made it all good. Whatever reasons you had when you decided to take up running will always remain and should drive you. Injuries are obstacles and there are ways around them. Remember, never give up!
