Many of you may have heard my love hate relationship of running with my fella. He runs to support me and to keep fit, not because he loves it. I hate running with him because he seems to be naturally faster/fitter/stronger than me and it frustrates me! I am feeling great at the moment. Life is really good and my running is going well. He has been super busy and β€œhas not had time” to run in almost 4 weeks. So this afternoon I dragged him out with the promise of a gentle 5k..... I pushed myself a little but it was a pace that he would normally have been comfortable with. I could tell he was finding it tough but he kept going as was still alive so with about 500m to go I turned up the speed. I know it’s a bit mean but it felt so good to be able to pull away and he couldn’t keep up!! I obviously did go back and check he was still alive etc after but for once I won (even though it is not a race!!)

I guess I should probably buy him a beer or something later as an apology!

Sounds good to me - don’t think I could do the same with my OH though.

My husband runs with a friend of mine in a small running group. They run every weekend and then we all drink coffee. They do HMs, 10ks, the Coniston 14, that kind of thing, but I have never been able to run before due to a dodgy hip. I did feel a little left out, if I’m honest. So I did the C25K. Secretly at first! Finally, after graduating, they helped me through my first parkrun, and I was very grateful, but then the finish line sort of appeared, and I sort of had a memory of former glory. You see, I used to sprint, many many years ago, and a sudden urge to go for it came over me, so I kicked for home, and left them standing. Neither of them could catch me... it felt glorious!

I’ll never run a marathon. I’m a has-been sprinter, not built for endurance! But it did feel cheekily good to kick my heels and not be the novice, for once! So, run, girl! Run like the wind! And enjoy!
