I beat my parkrun PB by well over a minute this week. I haven’t been doing anything special to run faster, not even the C25K+ speed stuff. All I’m doing is slowly increasing the distance of my weekly runs to reach 10K, but that seems to make the 5K that much easier, and hence faster, apparently.
To put this in perspective, I’m still slow. But I am so pleased with this. I was actually a little worried because I’d done 9km in the week, actually by accident because I got lost; I was meant to do 8. But I really felt the jump in distance, and was sore and crampy for a couple days.
But Saturday felt great, and when I got the time I was jumping around like the happy idiot I am.
Upton Park: very friendly, 200+ runners, pretty flat open course on grass, 2 laps of playing fields. Might be too exposed on hot sunny days or windy days. Nice view of Windsor Castle during the run.

Yes, I feel better than ever. That doesn't mean something else won't come along and bite me, literally or otherwise. But I'm enjoying myself and reaching my personal goals when I want to.
My increases for the long runs are also in line with JuJu's plan, although I don't always do the same for the 'short' run or the strength exercises.
I am in full tourist mode, this was 8 out of 8 different parkruns. Although I don't live too far from Windsor, so it was quite local. My normal training venue is Windsor Great Park.
Oh, I'm definitely going there soon. In fact it was a choice between there and Upton this week, but I chose Upton for the U. ;). Oh, and it's a bit closer.
Hi Charlie, I had a similar experience this week! Felt so good. I'm still not fast, but I could feel the difference in my lungs and my legs as I was running parkrun. I think you're right, just gradually increasing the distances is making us stronger, and then the 5k seems easier. Well done on your accidental 9k, and PB in one week! 💪🏼🎉
Yes, running longer definitely makes a difference. I reach the finish line before I get the dreaded "when will this end?" feeling now. 5K is starting to feel short, which I guess is when you can concentrate on doing it faster.
Personally, I have no intention of going further than 10K though. That's enough time out of my schedule, and doubling it again to do a Half Marathon is just too much. I will stick with 5-10K plus cycling from that point, and call it a win.
