I did another lake run on Wednesday evening and took a longer (but flatter) route. Meant I broke the 7km barrier and the 1 hour continuous running barrier.
So I'm pleased I am chipping away towards 10K and no problems with injury or stamina. I tried a couple of times to lengthen my stride or up the pace a little bit, but I couldn't sustain for long. I'm not too worried about speed.
It started to get pretty dark by the time I finished, and the park is not well lit, so I will soon need to find another outdoor location or join the gym - a concept that fills me with terror.

Good run for you IAmCharliemouse, that's what I did recently, increased distance gradually, however, I had the advantage of being able to run in the morning just after 9 and not worry about it getting darker in the evening. You could run shorter runs during the week after work before it gets dark and leave the longer runs to the weekend or any days that you are off work, not sure why don't fancy joining a gym.
Thanks. I'm not much of a morning person, but do enjoy parkrun. It's certainly an option.
As for gyms, this whole running lark is still new to me, and running in public is an embarrassment that I have only recently overcome. To then go to a room where I would not know what I was doing, full of people I would not otherwise meet, and do activities I am demonstrably incompetent at, is another big psychological barrier to me.
That's not to say I won't overcome it, I have come so far already, but I don't need to quite yet.
Really well done ! I have no doubts you will do your 10k soon.
The dark mornings and evenings are bugging me too. Not quite sure how to plan my runs in. I have one on the day I work from home (normally, this weeks got squeezed out by a visit to the doctor) and my weekend long run...but I still need to fit one more in...*sigh *
I was fine doing c25k and the bridge to 10k in the light early mornings but now I am a bit stumped.
