Last night i ran 10k with my running club, who started a c25k and then a bridge to 10k meet on a Tuesday. Never thought i would do it and I actually felt great running the last few km, unfortunatley when i got home (9pm) I started to feel sick and head achy. Which isnt the first time, i have a couple of times ended up having a migraine when Ive got home.
The club have kindly put on a bridge to 10k run on with medals next month. But i feel i need to sort out why i sometimes feel poorly after a run as i dont want to feel this way. Anythoughts?

I suffer from migraines - though running seems to gave helped rather than bring them on and I don't get them after running.
However my migraines seem to be caused (this discovered after hours of input from a migraine clinic) by dips in blood sugar and, I think most relevant to me following episodes of stress. That is I don't get the migraines while I'm at my most stressful but when I start relaxing - I would typically get them on Friday evenings after a busy week at work.
I wonder if either of these things might play into your migraines - either longer runs are causing dips in your blood sugar or perhaps you're getting anxious before or during your run?
I hope whatever it is you can sort it - as I love 10k as a great head's pace, stress relieving distance 😊.
Are you drinking plain water or something with carbs? If not, try a high carb drink to give your body a bit more fuel. How long after your previous meal are you running?
I am like debjogson, relaxing after a stressful period is a definite trigger. Dehydration is also a cause. I drink zero which gives me a bit more than just water. For runs of 10k plus I always carry a litre of drink, topping up at, say, 4k intervals. I have 3 bad migraines in the past few weeks....but none were caused by running.
Think about your posture and your shoulders when running. If you are unconsciously stressing before and during the run your tension in the neck and shoulders will increase so keep the shoulders down and relaxed. If I’m out and not feeling as good as usual or it’s starts to rain heavy or I’m running with others who seem to be doing better than me I can start to stress and end the run with a headache.
