Negative splits πŸ˜ƒ

Just got back from a 5k recovery run and see I have almost perfect negative splits - 6.58, 6.50, 6.50, 6.43,6.40! I think this is only about the second time I’ve ever managed it, as I usually set off too fast! πŸ˜ƒπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ™Œ

Absolutely perfect Sandie, who would have thought that you would have called that a recovery run , a year ago. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈβš‘οΈ

Too true Dexy5 I even stopped twice to say hello to dog walking friends in the village, otherwise it would have been a bit quicker!

A perfect run! My hubby and I managed to do that last week as well. It is fun to see, especially when it wasn’t something you consciously tried to do, the body just did it for you. You just have to bask in the glory of a perfect run when it happens!

Well done Sandie, brilliant run. No long distances for me this week. Legs need a rest!! Maybe Park run 2 on Saturday. I am sure you will cruise through 13kπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’ͺ

Thanks BC! I did slightly miscalculate my 12k last week and walked the last km, so did 13k in total. All I have to do now is run it all 😬

Fantastic negative splits Sandi. I love getting them too, but mine aren’t in the same league as yours! Wow! πŸ‘

Not planned Lavender, although I have been trying to set off at a steadier pace and, somehow, it just happened 😁

Now I'm feeling very dim because I've no idea what negative splits are and what they mean. Looks like it could be to do with getting faster as you go maybe?

Granspeed profile image

Yes, the negative part is positive - the steady increase in speed. I think the perfect bit here is the slow, steady drop in time per km, but I may be corrected by the legions of knowledgeable statisticians on here! πŸ˜„

At it’s simplest, a negative split is doing the second half of a run faster than the first. Doing every lap/km/mile/ whatever faster than the previous one shows great control of pace and is always worth celebrating πŸ‘

Thanks UTS but like most things I do, it wasn’t planned, it just happened 😁 Having said that I am trying to set off more slowly (had Coach Bennet telling me to start gently as I set off!)

Ah thank you. I've seen the term before and thought it may be something like that but now I know for sure!
