Lumpy Knee Mystery Solved - Fed Up No More 😁

A couple of months ago I posted about being fed up at having gone to the doctors with a strange lump on my knee hoping for a reassuring diagnosis only to be told I needed to go for an ultrasound. Being a complete hypochondriac I jumped straight to thinking I faced a future where I needed to borrow BaddieThePirate 's wooden leg but an x-ray and finally today an ultrasound later the diagnosis is... drum roll... pre-patella bursitis!

Saw a lovely consultant today who felt it probably originates from a fall onto my knee back in October (was rugby tackled by a 5 year old) and described it a 'bit of a bugger' to get rid of. However the good news is that it's totally superficial and isn't interfering with how my knee functions and I don't need to reduce my running 'in fact it's better to keep going'.

It certainly hasn't had any real impact recently other than occasionally feeling a bit sore after a long run - I even ran a lovely leisurely 8k on it this morning as a means of staying calm before my appointment and just in case it was my last πŸ˜‰ and saw a swan's nest.

Now only fed up that half term is nearly over...

Happy running everyone.

Good news Deb...and a lovely run too!

It's funny how we always assume the worst isn't it. Enjoy the last few days of the holidays! :) xx

Thanks. I'm a terrible worrier about health!

There's still one run left in this half term and now I know my knee's OK I'm signing up for Strava's Race to the Moon challenge so will be logging first miles on Sunday 😊.

Great news Deb! I'm glad you got the reassurance you needed and can move on from it, enjoying a lifetime of running, with both your legs intact πŸ˜‰

Thank you. Yes very pleased to know that I'm not doing any more damage by running on it. Ah a lifetime of running sounds good... 😊

Excellent news. These things are a big worry, aren’t they? So glad it’s such relatively good news. The odd bump that doesn’t matter too much seems a small thing in context! πŸ˜„

I am very relieved. It is a weird bump - and it sounds like it'll be around for a while. May be I'll have to name it - like a pet πŸ˜‚.

Glad to hear the knee mystery is solved and nothing serious. Hope you've been able to relax this half term and are ready for the final long haul!

Have enjoyed some R&R but now typically worrying about what I've not done. Next term is massively long isn't it - just looking at the diary makes me feel sick. Hope you are surviving too - 7 weeks and counting... 😊

Yes, the week goes very quickly! I've resorted to quick runs, cleaning the whole house and surfing for new sports & yoga wear other than making headway with writing 107 reports. Hope your running keeps you sane over the next few weeks! 😁

It's amazing how inviting housework can be at this point in the holiday πŸ˜‰

Glad that it’s worked out okay. I think the not knowing is the worse bit.

Exactly right. The consultant today was great and treated my anxiety as much as my knee 😊. She was also very encouraging about the running.

Brilliant news, Deb, you must be so relieved. A good diagnosis, especially if it means that you can still run - and that you should keep going hoorah! Am very pleased for you. 😊

Thanks Sadie. It is a relief - I seem to have been waiting ages and every time I've run at the back of my mind I've been worrying whether I'm doing more damage so will be good to lose that guilt too!

Can't wait to run on Sunday now. Hope all is well with you.

I am always like that with a niggle, obsessing about whether running will turn it into something worse, yet running all the same, thinking β€œoh come on it’s just a niggle!” (I know yours was more than a niggle, but thank heavens it won’t stop you running!) Enjoy your Sunday run!

I am good thanks (barring a hip niggle!) Second week of HM training and am really enjoying it - even the strength training! 😊

Such a lovely photo! Your pace does not sound at all leisurely to me! How good for you that it is better to keep running too! Excellent all round! 😊

😁 Yes was very pleased - was dreading them saying I'd have to stop running 😳

Fantastic news Deb. Firstly that it’s nothing serious, and secondly that it sounds as if running on it is actually a good thing! Oh yeah! πŸ‘πŸ‘ŠπŸ‘

As for naming it, I would. I name everything (ask my ex work colleagues on the equine hospital yard - broom, wheelbarrow ..... yep πŸ™„) It’ll help you not resent it so much, and if it’s going to be around for a while, you might as well make friends. πŸ˜€

Super, that IS good news. I'll keep hold of my wooden leg then πŸ˜„β˜ οΈ

I was really touched by the offer πŸ˜‚. And to be fair a wooden leg would definitely be smoother!

πŸ™„Just realised that makes me sound like I have really rough legs! I don't honestly - just a bumpy knee πŸ˜‚

Thanks Tbae! It was great news - almost worth the wait!

Think the next 7+ weeks will be a challenge - summer term is always a nightmare and this year we have added building work thrown in at school. Still I guess the summer holidays will seem all the sweeter.

Great news! And still time to get in one more run before back to work... did someone say it's a 7 weeker this one? Wish I knew how to do emojis here so I could do a sad face!

Yay one more holiday run.... It's actually 7 weeks and 3 days at my school 😳.

sunshinefish profile image
sunshinefishGraduate10β€’ in reply toDebJogsOn

I'm too scared to actually look or count..... but after a week I guess we could start thinking that we have the same time left and what we get on holidays, and after the second week, we could think that we have more time off coming up than what we have to work (this school year).
