Best running app?

Hiya,

Hope you're well and runs are going the same. Thanks in advance for your time. My question is - What do you rate as the best running app?

I currently use Fitness 22's free 'Run Tracker' to track my runs, and it has a few handy features:

- A woman (that sounds like she'd be no fun at parties) lets me know how I'm doing for pace/ average pace/ calories/ time every 5 - 60 minutes or .25 - 10km

- it has a small variety of backgrounds pictures/ colours/ text for stats if you want to share

- the GPS works well and can do maps/satellite/hybrid, and

- the suggestions to pay to get certain features and ads aren't intrusive at all.

It's nice as well that the home/ default screen has a nice big START RUN button, so if I want to start running I just tap that and off I go, no menu navigation needed.

I can't:

- choose who (i.e. male or female voice) is telling me my pace

- choose a running plan and/or have it say 'start steady run/walk/start tempo run' etc

Maybe the app you use doesn't do all that - if not maybe give Run Tracker a try.

I wonder though as I now want to train to improve my 10k time if I can get a running app that has an inbuilt plan but does all the above as well. I don't mind paying a small fee for it if it does what it does well. My current app wants £13 for a year or £27 for unlimited, which seems too expensive just to get somewhat tailored running plans. I've found 10k apps but all of them don't give me my present pace via audio.

So what do you use to track your runs? Is it free (if not how much)? and can it do what mine can't or do what it does do better? Do you think what I'm asking for is just impossible? :)

I use the app that comes with my soon to be binned fitbit. I listen to music also from my phone and the app interrupts every 500mtrs to give me my pace. This mornings 8k I was able to follow my pace and to be honest I knew when I had done a slow one. Found a bit of juice at the end and upped the pace for the last k. I find it adequate. You can get map my run which is similar. I think the most I have paid for any app is about £2 so £13 seems massive and £27 for "unlimited" on a product that may stop being supported tomorrow seems outrageous.

Not much help I am afraid but have a look here:-

Thanks very much Jonno34, and congrats on this morning's 8k - on my last (and first) 10k I could not up my pace for the last few k, never mind the last! I think I'll try out map my run as I've seen a few recommendations for it. I agree with your comments, good point about the app becoming unsupported! Thanks also for the link, will have a peruse.

Another vote for Fitbit here. No training plans, though. A lot of VRBs on here use Nike Run Club, which is free and can do programmes as well as guided runs. I have it but haven’t got along with it yet, but that was only one try and I didn’t give it a good go. I’m not really ready for a training plan yet, so will probably just use it for the odd guided run.

Hi. I've used Strava from the start and had no problems. I just use the free version... Although I'm thinking of trying the pay version for one free month then cancelling. (If I can)

Good luck

1 month for free is much better than my app's offer of 3 days for free! Thank you Deals1, I'll give Strava a try :)
