Well folks, my intention to run at Ashridge after the fishing lake works party came to nought. I was happily feeding a rather large bonfire of cuttings when dried bull rushes in combination with a sudden gust of wind in my direction I felt an intense blast of heat. I thought no more about it until I turned to face my hubby who looked in horror and then burst out laughing at the brillo pad halo effect around my face!

No burns thank goodness (yes it could have been a lot worse), but thinned and curly eyebrows (funny how the white ones always survive) and lost most other facial hair, two handfuls of hair brushed out after I had stomped back to the car and a snow storm of tips. My fringe is thinned but still present and fairly even(ish). As one welder fisherman said I have what is known as a 'blacksmith's fringe' and I thank all those present for being kind and saying all had been caught out the same way as my pride more than anything had taken a beating. I also smelt like a kipper and burnt hair - not a good combination!

So, instead of heading for Ashridge afterwards for my run, it was off to mum in law's for a game of Scrabble or two and a natter, again with much hilarity, then two hours of hair conditioner slathered on top has helped a bit and hairdresser on Thursday.

Now I have a dilemma. Hubby is on the IC and this is one of my two home days when we usually do stuff and I have a long list. I really really want to go to Ashridge but that does make it a bigger deal time wise than running behind bungalow. Ashridge is calling me though ..... but whichever I choose I am most definitely heading out today with my thinner locks blowing in the breeze .....and it will grow back of course! Thanks for reading - very cathartic getting this one off my chest! (: SPx

Oh my word SP, that must have been a shock! I’m so glad it was just your fringe which took a beating. 🔥 I’m sure your hairdresser will work wonders and it’ll end up being a distant memory!

I think Ashridge is calling your name ....... 😈

Thanks muchly and will take more care in future! Though I do have a track record for fire related incidents. Yes I did set the newspaper on fire via candles on the table in front of me. Then there was the croissant catastrophe when I forgot to remove the wrapper and set fire to the microwave. Oh yes, and the microwaved baked potato incident. Said potato ended up walnut sized and very black. I hit the wrong buttons, forgot all about it as I worked in the office, and once the smell filtered through to me the starch and steam had already discoloured our newly painted hall ceiling, much to the dismay of the significant other who had only just finished it the day before. You probably get the picture and no one who knows me well has been particularly surprised!

Ashr is a cert and thanks for the encouragement - just need to let my lunch settle and I will head off. Have put on my 'running gear' to help set the mood and the allotment will just have to wait! :)
