I was going to post after my run this morning but saw this chalked on the little bridge near the rose garden. Sadly the toll has now risen to 50. Just horrific.

There aren't enough words Lexi.

I don't know what to say 💔

It's just so shocking.x

Hard to believe isn’t it? that such hatred exists and that one person was capable of that. X

I am sure everyone here on Healthunlocked has been horrified by what happened in Christchurch, deepest sympathy to all in New Zealand.

Thank you Al we’re all devastated here at this evil, shocking atrocity. We are just so shocked. We’re all feeling for the poor families who immigrated here because they thought NZ was a safe place.

Thanks Flara, its been lovely to see all the support coming from the UK too, united in our horror at this. X

It is absolutely horrific that one person can look at another and just take their lives but to do it over and over .. you’re right there are no words.

How can someone harbour so much hate. I have friends who are scared to leave their homes. Children scared to go places and make new friends. So sad.

Living in fear, it is so, so sad I agree.

Terrible, impossible to ever understand.

Thinking too of how wide the spread of the horror is, and for so long. The survivors, families, friends, even passers by will live with the repercussions for years. 💕😢

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate10 in reply to Granspeed

You’re right Granspeed. Nothing will ever make it better for them, unimaginable sights, especially for the many children involved. NZ held vigils for the victims all over the country tonight and have raised since Saturday, $5 million and still growing for the victims’ families.

💕 Our grandson lives in Auckland. Sure he & his friends are all devastated.

I’m sure your grandson and friends are horrified, Its just incomprehensible. The individual stories starting to come out are heartbreaking. X

So, so awful - I think the world stands shocked and saddened (again) at such an act of hate. Thoughts for NZ from here in the UK. ❤️

Thanks Sandra, much appreciated. I think we were naive to think we were immune from terroism, protected by our isolation. How wrong we were.

Everyone I know is heartsick at this horrible incident. Also applaud the bravery of some of the victims. It's just awful. I'm also angry that the media are trying to whitewash the gunman and find justification because of his past. This wouldn't happen if the terrorist had been Muslim. We need to recognise the threat from white supremacists. So very very sorry, Lexi. i have a friend living near there and she is in pieces over it. Just know that the world is shocked and is right behind you xxx

Much appreciated Flick and I agree, there can’t possibly be any justification or excuses for this individual and his group. They’re vile and need stopping.

We are so outraged.

The support from all over the world and within NZ being shown our Muslim community has been wonderful to witness. We are so sorry they should have been safe here and they weren’t xx

So very sad. One of our Gap students is from NZ, she was devestated & incredulous. The rise of these kinds of white supremacist attacks & fascism is very worrying. I was feeling grateful to be alive and well whilst running this morning. Thinking of all caught up in this.

lexi6Graduate10 in reply to Slinkymalinki

I agree Slinky, these groups are getting to be a huge worry and this atrocity will just encourage them even more.

It was shocking news... even more in a way to see how many idiots were reposting the footage of this atrocity on social media. Any person should feel safe, especially when talking to their version of God. It’s a sick world out there.

Luckily in here we are generally an a’hole free zone.

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate10 in reply to UnfitNoMore

Sharing the footage was just disgusting and more revolting was that fact that he was being cheered on by others during his live feed. Apparently Facebook removed 1.5 million video clips within a 24 hour period. What is wrong with these people?

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate10 in reply to lexi6

Sadly when billions of people are in one “place” the subhumans can find each other easier than in regular life.

Out of horror and tragedy needs to come hope... while we are busy increasing security at mosques synagogues and churches, maybe we need to make some time to have all the leaders of said establishments talk and come out publicly together with a message... this is never in our name. While I’m in favour of free speech... if that speech is pure hate, you belong in jail.

50 people went to prayers and will never pray again... 50 more injured for doing so. One guy did that, and sadly he’s still alive... but the thousands of people supporting it need to be tracked down and imprisoned. If the social media giants can take down the content, they can also tell the authorities who 99% of them are... it’s time they acted for a better world.

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate10 in reply to UnfitNoMore

Hear hear Unfit! Social media companies are far more interested in making huge profits than having a social conscience. This waste if space is still alive so lets start with a jail sentence of 15 years x 50 (not served concurrently) for a start. NZ is now looking at legislating for gun changes, but a gun is just the instrument, lets tackle those hate people/groups, who buy them and investigate them thoroughly. I mean what justification is there for any private citizen needing a semi automatic rifle? I think your idea of all leaders of the different faiths, being united and sending a message would be a very positive step.
