Planning routes

Morning fellow runners, this might be useful - I have always used mapometer.com to plan routes when I wanted to do a specific distance, unfortunately the route mapping and planning on this site is now only available if you pay a subscription. I have just found another site that enables you plan routes, this one is totally free and also enables you to save routes - mappedometer.com

Mapometer UK still has the running route planner free..but not advanced features e.g. satellite images etc... I still use it to plan and save my routes for nothing:)

But thanks for this :)

Sorry you are right, my fault, I should have explained . . . it’s the satellite view that is now not free on mapometer, the ordinary map view is still free.

Strava also has route planning in the free version. Strava.com

Gods you are SO organised. I just stagger out the door, puff my way up the hill and decide at the last minute which direction I’m going to run 🤪

Hmmmmm well I wouldn't say that :) when I set myself some targets I just like to have a rough idea of where I'm going so when I get back home I have done the right distance :) Also as my partner constantly tells me I have no sense of direction!, but there's a lot less arguments though since the advent of satnav 😂😂😂

I use strava, mapmyrun and also Rungo - all free versions. Rungo has the advantage that it will act like a satnav on your run - it tells you when to turn and also shows your live position and actual route alongside the planned route (I find this useful when I'm off course and also when I'm trying to find the right path at the start of a run). Although I definitely find it invaluable on new routes, I have to say it sometimes tells me I'm off course when I'm not and it's voice instructions aren't 100% reliable, but the live tracking is great backup to this. Just about to plot tomorrow's route in Rungo as it's a new one for me ....

I will look at the one you mention though - it may have more paths on it than the other sites I've used or other features that may be useful.
