Just walked the dog. πŸ•

Wished I could have run the route - but couldn’t as I wasn’t in my running gear and, in any case, I don’t have trail shoes. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Got back in the car. πŸš™

Bought some trail shoes. πŸ‘Ÿ

Now I can’t wait for them to arrive and try those babies out. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Ha, well I’m the total opposite! When I get a bee in my bonnet I usually simply act on it! The bee has been buzzing for a while now, but I was trying to hold out until my gait analysis the week after next. I was going to ask their advice about trail shoes too - but having read that they’re all basically neutral, I thought β€œstuff it, I’m buying them now”! Quick scroll through Amazon, Bob’s my uncle, sorted! πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

sunshinefish profile image
sunshinefishGraduate10 in reply to cheekychipmunks

Ha ha, yes we are total opposites! I am even thinking/planning about waiting til my birthday in June to get gait analysis done for my next pair of shoes!

Good to know about trail shoes. I am getting a bit bored with pounding the pavements.

I walk on a pretty common with my dog and I used to think people would be bonkers trying to run it. It’s very undulating. Now I can’t wait to see how I get on! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

I didn’t realise trail shoes were neutral until recently. Always learning aren’t we? πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

We certainly are! Watch out for wee holes and hillocks on your run, I have done a few "graceful" wobbles when I run across our local fields. Didn't like the first time I ran around fields, but it grew on me.Enjoy your run!

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to sunshinefish

Yes I will be very mindful of the footing. I wouldn’t forgive myself if I got over zealous and turned an ankle or something. I’m even more careful nowadays whilst walking - running has become so important in my life that I hate the thought of jeopardising it. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

UpTheStanley profile image
UpTheStanleyGraduate10

Cheeky, if your gait analysis does suggest you need corrective shoes, I've no doubt the shop will be delighted to also sell you corrective insoles for your new trails - well worth taking them along. I got some for mine, then ran without them having seen the thing about not needing correction on trails - and picked up a sore right achilles which has taken the best part of a week to quieten down. I think my gait gradually changed when I first got my supportive road shoes (moved to mid-foot strike from heel) and my tendons didn't like reverting to no support. Just a thought …..

Not cheap though - 40% or so on top of the shoe price :-( .

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to UpTheStanley

Very good idea there UTS, thanks so much. Yes, I’ll definitely take them along. Do you think I should wait for the gait analysis before trying them out then? It’s on Feb 5th, so not long. I *think* I’ll be able to resist giving them an outing if necessary! Or do you think a tiny trot will be ok? πŸ˜€πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Dexy5Graduate10 in reply to cheekychipmunks

If you do hold back cheeky, at least you’ll be able to change them if the experts think they aren’t right for you. 🀫

I know UTS tried several shoes with different insoles before he made the decision. But I know nothing about trail shoes other than that.

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to Dexy5

It might be a good idea mightn’t it Dexy? It’s only a few more days after all, plus the forecast is for very cold weather this week so I might be gym bound if it’s too bad. ❄️ ❄️

Beachcomber66 profile image
Beachcomber66Graduate10 in reply to cheekychipmunks

UTS and I have been comparing notes on trails. I got sore lower calves after running about 7k....my longest run in them. Yesterday I did 8k in my road shoes which have a bit of stability and I was fine. On the hunt for insoles! Definitely worth checking out. Lady in the running shop said she would never run more than 50 miles in trails .......I just nodded πŸ˜‚

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to Beachcomber66

50 miles???!!! πŸ˜³πŸ˜…πŸ˜³πŸ˜…πŸ˜³

I think I’m going to take them along to my gait analysis on the 5th and get insoles if they think it’s necessary. I’d hate to pick up an injury just because I couldn’t wait an extra few days. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

They are lush Cheeky!

You're so lucky being able to buy online. I've got such stupid shaped feet I just have to try them on first.

I've been toying with getting trail shoes, and UpTheStanley 's tip about getting insoles for extra support is something I'd not thought of. My road shoes have been fine on muddy, uneven trails so far, but with more wild weather forecast I think a trip to my local running shop may be on the cards. You have inspired me!

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to Tartancat

Excellent TC, I hope you can find some nice ones. πŸ˜€ Trail running is a new idea for me as I’d never really considered it before. But since running on the common a while ago and realising how much more I’d be able to do with the proper footwear, I began mulling it over. Didn’t take much mulling! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ
