Magic Extra.... Plankety Plank guidešŸ•ŗšŸ½

There have been lots of questions about the Magic extras, and with this weeks planks I wanted to suggest what to do. If you havenā€™t ā€˜ Plankedā€™ before then I am keen that you break your body in gently. So watch the vid for good technique guidance, and then try 10 seconds for starters and try to add on 10 seconds each time you do it. Itā€™s something you can do on a non running day. With all of the extras, it will end up in being a workout which I will give you guidance on to give you all round strength for your running.

So have a go, see how your body feels, and donā€™t forget to breathe......

Hi ju-ju-, regarding planks, before I even began with C25K and graduated my daughter gave me a yoga mat to do exercises on, so I looked for yoga and plank exercises on YouTube, found three that I practiced along with.

1=The three minute perfect plank with Bowflex, Tom Holland.

2=5-Minute Workout That Replaces High-Intensity Cardio

3= 7-Minute Plank Challenge!

Perhaps doing them from time to time helped me to complete C25K without repeating any of the runs or week's. šŸ˜Š šŸƒ

No I think that elephant is doing the downward dog!

Just a note of caution- if anyone has high blood pressure, planks are not recommended.

Hi Dexy - do you have something I can read on this - web link? I have high BP (but not by much - going to come off the tabs soon but that wish continues) - I have a review in a couple of weeks so if not I can ask them at the surgery.

I read it somewhere Richard, but I canā€™t remember where. It was also mentioned at a Pilates class.

A quick google came up with this statement from the Daily Express.

ā€œBecause planks are static, pressure can be increased in the abdomen.

This means that those who have high blood pressure, or other heart or circulatory problems, may experience a further rise which could be harmful.ā€

Daily Express is not the best source of info but it does confirm what I believe. At classes I always put one knee down to reduce pressure.

Good luck with your review - I hope you get the same results as I did.

Thanks - I think this time around I will not. Thanks for the tip. I have been doing half planks (not sure what their proper name is) but switched to full planks 2 days ago!! So it's timely information!!
