Bit of a weary Parkrun today (still fun obvs!) with speedy newbie daughter! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

So after the excesses of the last few days (I’m sure those chocolates had more in the box than that - oh, it was me 😈), along with my euphoric 10k on Boxing Day, I headed out to parkrun with my willowy 25 year old daughter. She’d done Tough Mudder in the summer, but she’s only a very occasional runner.

Her time? 31.09! Stop it! Made my time seem even more pedestrian than usual. Still (excuse time), it was windy, I had sore shins from a brisk 5k hilly walk in heavy boots, I’d leant her my headphones. Ok, ok, my body was making me pay! But it was brilliant having her come along and she loved running with our dog. πŸ•She’s going to try Hampstead Heath when she’s back in London.

My Garmin only registered 4.9k though - is that common? I didn’t have MMR today but that’s always accurate. Anyone else noticed a discrepancy?

Right, next stop The Double on New Years Day. Time to restart hydrating and being mindful on New Years Eve! Have a great time everyone! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

Well done on getting out there, I have seen a few people post Garmin showing 4.9 so I don't think it's unusual.

Oh that’s ok then. Thanks Chris, I don’t want to be robbed of precious distance! πŸ˜€

Ours tend to go over 5k rather than under cheekychipmunks. It’s probably me overtaking everyone - not. 🀣🀣

Haha! πŸ˜…

I noticed the other day MMR said I’d reached 10k before Garmin did too. Maybe I’ll use the MMR time - it was 40 seconds quicker! I’ll take anything! πŸ˜…

My Garmin said 4.96k on today's parkrun - despite buzzing 1,2 and 3k all before the respective markers leading me to expect more than 5k on the Garmin! I've given up trying to understand :D :D :D The Parkruns are all measured out aren't they? I'm sure they must be accurate :)

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10

I’ll never understand tech! And it’s not like the measurements are miles out and I’m an elite runner! Still, tons of fun though and I must say I felt like I belonged when I set my Garmin going at the start! πŸ‘πŸ˜€

Another great parkrun cheekychipmunks, well done to you and your daughter πŸ˜€

I was working this morning so no parkrun but I got out for a quick 5K this afternoon which was a relief as I felt I was fighting a viral infection this morning , but it seemed to get better as the day went on so at least I've got two runs in this week. 😁

Thanks CH, and I’m glad your run made you feel better. πŸ˜€πŸ‘

I could easily have skipped this morning judging by how my legs felt. Not painful, just fatigued. But I’m so glad I did! Seeing my daughter running was lovely too. She had a great run and was very proud (and surprised) at her time. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Well done Cheeky! Strava registered mine as 5.2k! I’d love to run with my very sporty 23 year old son, but his day only has one 9 o’clock and it isn’t the morning one πŸ˜‚

The only run mmr and starva agreed upon on my phone was park run! Normally one says more than the other, usually mmr.

Great run!

Nice to run with your daughter Cheeky. I use Runkeeper and it always makes our parkrun just under 5k.

Thanks Jonathan, she enjoyed it and will be a regular when she moves back to Bristol in a couple of months. πŸ˜€

Interesting about the differing distances - I don’t mind as long as it’s not way out. I used the Garmin and MMR for my 10k last week, and used the Garmin’s stats just to be sure I’d run the distance. Only a tiny bit different, but it would have bothered me if MMR has shortchanged me!

Yes I sometimes run a bit further just so I complete 'my' 5k! πŸ˜€

Well done Cheeky! My Garmin often measures a bit under, and Strava often takes even more off. Just figure it’s an accurately measured 5k, so Parkrun know best. 😊❀️

Yes I agree MD, and the discrepancy is very small in any case. Interesting to see what it measures on the first New Years Day parkrun. I’m getting quite nervous about the double now it’s getting closer! πŸ˜€

Ah, yes, speedy offspring. My daughter and granddaughter had to keep running back to me when we ran together, so that they didn't disappear and lose me x

They keep it real for us don’t they?

I was on her heels for the first 0.5km, then she starting edging away. I saw her running up through the funnel while I still had the last km lap to go. At least she was there to cheer me in! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ
