I missed last week's Parkrun due to the weather, I don't mind rain, but torrential rain in a gale is too much.
This week went very well, despite the Garmin playing up. A couple of 4.2Km 30 minute runs on Monday and Thursday, and now the 5Km in 33.02 minutes (PB is 32.22).
Loads of fun today, everyone seemed very cheerful, and a good turnout for a grey day. I was 213th of 266.
I came up behind a friend of mine as we approached the line. She is much younger than me, so I called "you don't want me to beat you, do you?" as I closed in. She sprinted away, and I tried to follow, but she beat me fair and square. Just as well, her husband, who had finished long before us was standing watching.
My issues with the Garmin saying that I needed 60+ hours recovery turned out to be very simple to fix. I went to the watch page on Garmin Connect, and then User Settings, and found Configure Heart Rate Zones. Raised my Max Heart Rate to 170, from the 140 that it had there (max today was 165, in the sprint race at the end). It then calculated the others. Not sure if this is good science, but it is giving better looking recovery times and Training Effect divisions - back to before the firmware update. I recover very fast and my heart rate falls to around 70-60 in under 30 minutes, and I have had a recent ECG so I know my heart is ok.
Ain't technology wonderful?
Happy New Year's Running.❤👏🙏

Congratulations on completing this mornings Keswick Parkrun, last parkrun of 2018. Just think that at the beginning of 2018 you couldn't run for peanuts as they say, now you are running 🏃 sub 35 minute runs regularly, you can look forward to 2019 being a really great running year for you and perhaps you can run a sub 30 minute 5k as well. 😊 🏃 ❤️👍
Hello theoldfellow. I’m with you where torrential rain and wind is concerned. I stayed in bed during a similar weekend. I’m glad you’ve sorted your garmin. I’m not sure my 35 does recovery time .
As I ran on Christmas Day and will do so again on new year’s day, I did barcode scanning today. I wore latex gloves on advice from an experienced friend. It’s amazing where the barcodes are stored during the run!
I expect you were a bit busy on Christmas Day to go parkrunning!
3 services in 3 days. Doesn't sound much from a Roman or Protestant perspective, but we Orthodox think nothing of 2-3 hours on the feet. I also bake the bread. I must admit I now use the standing to practice and strengthen my balance when I can.
Good point about the barcode, I must admit mine travels in the same (one and only) pocket with my handkerchief, and £10 note for breakfast. You just don't know where banknotes have been...
All these technical issues with Garmin folk are reporting blow my mind a bit. I love using Strava (via my phone) to record runs and like the (relatively low tech) data but think I might stop enjoying the running if I had to start worrying about heart rates and recovery times.
I may of course have to rethink this if I collapse on my next run 😂.
The Garmin is a bit of fun - I use Strava too. I don't obsess over it. The Doc knows I'm running, and has done the checks. I guess I am a data geek freak. 😵
You and UTS. One of my pressies was a framed picture(?) showing the dates I met various times and distances since graduation and my next targets. No wonder he was busy when I wanted help with pre-Christmas!
