I actually overtook 2 people on the hideous hill at parkrun this morning! How is that possible? π And, to be honest, even though itβs still vile, I dare say it wasnβt as vile today. I think I even passed my snail (sorry buddy π).
Now you have to understand weβre still not talking swift. Far from it. But it was my 2nd fastest PR time (PB was in the rain a few weeks ago), and it felt really good! Todayβs official time was 38.05 and MMR recorded 37.54 at 5k. Pleased with that.
Can you spot which km includes the hill?!! ππ
In other news. Iβm well excited as my Christmas pressie from my dear husband is arriving today! Garmin Forerunner 235 in Frost Blue! I wonβt open it until the big day though. Seriously, itβs as exciting as getting a horse for my Action Girl back in the 70βs! π
Oh wow, overtaking on hills! No snails today CCM and a very good run from the sounds of it, well done! Your Christmas present sounds lovely, nice husband!
Thanks SSF! I helped him out by adding it to the Amazon basket and even got him a good Black Friday deal (Β£149 I think). All he had to do was press the button! π
That looks like a fine bit of running Cheeky, it sounds like youβre getting the measure of that hill. You'll love your Garmin. I have the same model - itβs great being able to get all geeky over the reams of stats it produces after each run.
Oh yes Mike, I feel my inner geek itching to emerge! π€ Canβt wait to ditch the annoying arm band, where I canβt operate my phone even with special phone fingers on my gloves! π
I have just installed a "a time until app" on my new Smartphone, at 4pm today it was exactly :30 days 13 hours until 5 o'clock in the morning on Christmas Dayπ, that's the time most little children wake up to open their Xmas π πpresents. ππ
Isn't that the truth! If you can resist opening it before Christmas, you have some amazing self control! You might have to get hubby to hide it for you .... and remember where he put it π
Youβll just love looking at all your stats when youβve got your watch cheeky.
Well done on your hilly Parkrun; Iβm sure your snail will be back with you for the long distance runs. Thatβs what youβll notice, the longer you can run, the faster your parkruns will be.
Thanks Dexy! Yes I think my legs are getting stronger at last. Iβll never be a gazelle, but it feels great when something clicks, like the feeling I had on the hill today. Iβd love to get that km down below 8 minutes!! π
Oh yes I feel awesome Dreams! Itβs lovely having a breakthrough like that. It gives confidence for next week as I know I can push a little harder. πͺπββοΈππ
Brilliant run! However, any further overtaking could bring your membership of the snail club under review! Setting a very bad example to fellow Gastropoda!!
Hahaha! Oh thereβs no danger of me leaving that club BC! I have an 8k to do on Monday and my snails will all be there, way ahead of me again! πππππππββοΈ
The 235 in frost blue looks gorgeous- I was very tempted by that one too. I've just got the Vivoactive (in the sales) - you are going to love yours I just know it! Ive just started the Jeff Galloway training plan that's installed on it, that promises to make me faster ( from π to π’). Though how you have the willpower to wait till Christmas I do not know, you're a far stronger person than me!
And yes, it beats getting action girls horse (though not by much. Gosh, those were the days!)
Well done cheeky. Sounds like a great run. You will love your Garmin. I got a basic one a few weeks ago and really like it. It has made me a bit obsessed with my stats though. I keep telling myself Iβll have a βnakedβ Garmin free, just for fun, run. Then I tell myself Iβll do that next time......π Itβs so addictive.
Hi CC nice run, that hill looks a killer, but now your overtaking folk perhaps your getting used to it. Great jobπ on the other news Iβve asked Santa (wife) for the same watch in lava red hopefully Iβll be luckyπ€glad you had a good Parkrun π
Thanks Runsome. The first part of the hill up from the lake is steep but not too long. The killer is that it links up to the main path which is about a kilometre of steady uphill! Luckily we only do the whole thing once, on the 2nd lap. We do the main path on all 3 laps, so each one has an uphill element. But we still go back each week! π
Hope Santa brings you your lovely Lava Red Garmin! π€π€ π
Iβm tempted to do a flat parkrun one week to see what my time would be. There is one I could get to, but itβs 20 minutes further away, so about a 45 minute drive for me. Maybe in the New Year ...... πββοΈπββοΈ
Thanks Jonathan. The first part is steep, the rest of less so but itβs about a km long. Each of our laps has an uphill section, but fortunately the steep/long combo is only on lap 2. Good thing too! π πββοΈ
I think you're right that longer runs and 'regular' hills do help build up our strength and stamina - but it is nice to do a flat 5k to see what time is possible!
I totally agree. There are a couple of flat ones I could get to which are a bit further away, but I think Iβll give them a go in the New Year! π
Haha! I bet your snails were saying βwhat on Earth is cheeky up to that wasnβt part of the plan!β Overtaking uphill... the world has gone crazy! π good for you cheeky!
OMG that watch looks gert lush, love the colour nice big face too, looks lovely π πβ‘οΈβ‘οΈ
I have to say it felt bizarre overtaking on the hill. I was slowly closing in on them, and I almost slotted in behind, but i thought I should go for it! Snail was confused, especially when I went past someone else! He joined me again while I recovered from my exertions! πββοΈπ π
Well done to you! Running getting easier that is worth celebrating πΎπ₯π ππ»πππβοΈπββοΈπ€ΈββοΈπββοΈπ€ΈββοΈπββοΈπ€ΈββοΈ Whoopee!
Hi Cheeky, well done on your run, you're doing brilliantly!!
I can totally relate to your excitement about pressie, my husband has bought me exactly the same garmin pressie and he collected it yesterday so I know its here. So want a little peek. Haven't been so excited about a pressie for a long time. Bring on Christmas morning, I'll probably beat our grandson up on the morning
Haha, brilliant Lorijay! I received mine from the Amazon guy yesterday evening and put it in a drawer. Itβs sooooo tempting to open it! I havenβt been so excited about Christmas since the Action Girl horse! π π π Bet thereβll be quite a few new Garmin photos on here on Christmas morning! π π πββοΈ
