This is a lovely time of year for running, but itβs good for us runners to ensure we can be seen well these darker mornings/eveningsππ½ββοΈππ».
So folks, this is Week 4 of our βBe awesome in Octoberβ Quest. How is your awesomeness going everyone?
This post and Quest will now run through to the end of the month. But new questers can still join.
A new Quest will be posted for November.
What the Quest is;
The Quest takes one calendar month . You can at join any point during that time.
The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
I ask that you will be a Graduate to join the Quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are completing the programme, your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:-
To run three times a week
To slowly increase distance
To train for a specific race
To add In Stretch and Strength exercises
As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice. So if you want to join, all you have to do is put;
I would like to join the Quest, or, count me in and then, I would like to. ..............
Every week of October I will put up a new post and we can have a good old natter together on how we are each doing. Letβs be awesome folksπ
At the end of the Quest, there will be a certificate that you can download to keep should you wish to.
Wishing you a happy, healthy autumnal month x

Quite pleased: final 9k run in the bag so my cakestand will be filled as soon as the last cupcake charm arrives (and yes, there will be a photo when it does) It's been a really great medal challenge to go for.... and now I'm ready to go back to doing little runs a little more often for a while.
I'm back in the pool. 3 consecutive mornings is quite tough, so I'm keeping each session to the shorter of my suite of distances in favour of maintaining the momentum - if I keep this up I should complete my looooooooong virtual swim by the end of this year. Bloomin' Swim England have removed the map from the challenge.
Yoga has really not been great, just a couple of sessions. As for the weight...
Hello Millsie, I am pleased to say I am back running again and continuing on my October quest to complete jujuβs magic plan. It might not be this month , but thatβs OK.
I also got back to parkrun on Saturday
Totally inspired by all the runners at the Great South Run in Portsmouth this weekend.
And as my top goal was to help Dexy to the far side of the Bridge β¦β¦..
But with her second 9k hopefully on for tomorrow (we'll probably add on the missing 70 metres from a fortnight ago), it could still be 10k a week tomorrow, which would still be in October
Not that I'm putting any pressure on
Goal 2 not bad, with a consolidating 10k in 53'45" (nearly 2 mins quicker than graduation) and Goal 3 (watching the GSR) achieved with no pain whatsoever, apart from my clacker hand getting tired
19 hours later - sheβs only been and gone and done it ππ½ββοΈ, as reported elsewhere. Not the second 9, but a 10 in 77 minutes ππ½ββοΈππΎπ₯π
And I carried on for an extra 2k on top in 10β05β, so Iβm claiming monthly goals achieved, if only by accident π
I have only run once this week again, I have been careful of a slight strain...but the run was Awesome!π
Just a 5k for Roseabi's speed challenge, using my new glute engaging method..
I forgot to unpause my music as I pressed start on Strava so was running with just my breathing at the start, and didn't even notice for the first 1k. Fast, mindful running, and after reading an interesting article someone posted on here, knowing I could go out of my comfort zone and still be fine. It seems your brain is wired to say you need to stop, but actually you have much more reserve you can call upon...
The run was not fun, I still want to belong in the slow and steady camp, but I pushed myself on. Looking at my watch, I could see another PB was possible, so I dug in and kept my pace up. The result, a PB and my fastest 5k ever. I have cut around 5 mins off my usual time this month.
Not many runs this month, not the happiest of times for me, but the runs have been quality and Awesome.π
Next run will be back to normal, not sure when yet.
Sorry to hear itβs been a tough month for you Jan, but glad the runs you got in were quality runs. Congrats on the PB, too! Thatβs awesome!!! Hereβs hoping November is better for you.
So not a good week running wise......still have some pain in my right ankle/foot from my recent tumble. I will be doing a short run tomorrow to try it out however, yeahhhhhh! π€πΌ
Have kept up my yoga/ Pilates but had to choose moves carefully to protect my fall injuriesπ
Had an almost alcohol free month.... I did have a glass of preseco and a red wine on a special night out but otherwise Ive stuck with it.
Hi Millsie, fingers crossed for you on your run tomorrow...I can feel your excitement at the prospect. It is extremely cold outside today, so wrap up for it!
I hope that pain you still have in your ankle settles, as you say just a short run to see how it feels... let us know how it goes.
As for the yoga and abstinence..Well done, great willpowerπxx
I'm nervous guys. I've signed up to do an 8.7km race in Nantes, France tomorrow. I needed a medical cert to do it as it's mandatory for all running events in France. I didn't think I'd find a GP to write one for me but i did - a runner of course. So I registered today and got my number with chip. I went to see the route with my french partner. 120 stone steps to climb in the middle ! It's a very pretty route, through little streets and along the Loire river. But it's a bit hilly - Argh and I've a niggly knee - double Argh! and what if a big fit frenchie shoves me out of his way (ARGH!). Over 1,000 runners will be jamming the streets apparently. I am very anxious but the only thing to do is to Take It Easy. Wish me luck
You can do it! Walk up the steps and use it as a drinks break. Good luck awesome paulanoo ππΌ
Thanks Guys. I've just stuffed my face with dinner. I was really thinking of not going. Ok, I have an extra hour in bed so I've no excuse. And i can walk the steep bits and keep out of the way of all those speedy frenchmen.
