Running in the dark, a cautionary tale ....

Be careful in the dark out there....

As I left the brightly lit streets and headed along the pavement into the night, my head torch picked out some foliage spreading from the bushes at the side, taking me by surprise. I tried to go round by stepping into the road, I dropped from the pavement and ouch - sprained my ankle!

After a few expletives and a sit on the floor, I hobbled the 2k home.

SO frustrating - I have been progressing well and really enjoying my running! (Even in the dark).

Be careful out there, run where you can see and stop if your confronted with an obstacle......

Ouch, that looks really nasty 😢. It's so easy to mis-judge your steps in the dark (not that I've been brave enough to go out in the dark yet).

Hope it heals soon 😊

Thanks, yes must be more careful. Running late night is great though, the streets are quiet and you feel a real sense of freedom. All the best

Ooch Richroux. so sorry to hear about your fall. Get that ice out and join me on the injury couch. I guess if you join all our good bits together we can find a runner.

I highly recommend a chest torch to aid vision and be seen too (red light on the back). I got mine from Decathlon for about £30 last year and it's brilliant. Rechargeable.

Oh, hope your ankle is better soon so you can try one out!

Hi there, thanks so much for the tip, I've not seen them before. Looks like a good idea not having the light bobbing about.

May be a few weeks before I get to run again - tore a ligament. I'm going to miss it for a while but hope to build back up and enjoy it once again.

Many thanks
