Set off today on my last run of the summer holidays ๐.
Was determined it was going to be a good one and had mapped out a new 10k trail route.
The weather was perfect (exactly the return to school weather we have every year) clear blue sky, sunshine, dew on the grass and the hint of autumn in the air.
The first bit of the route was completely familiar as it's where I did all my hidden early runs in C25K a year ago (strangely seems so much shorter these days ๐) I then cut off the beaten track into lovely rolling countryside and managed to get completely lost - in the radio drama I was listening to, in the wonderful views, in the sight of rabbits and squirrels and a deer as I cut through woodland, in how good my legs felt AND actually really lost!
I managed to pick up a back road and work out where I was and head for home, but the result was 8.6k rather than 10k.
Still it was a glorious run and a fitting goodbye to my commitment to fun running throughout the summer. It also means a whole load of new paths to try out on those autumn weekends ahead.
Thinking I might need trail shoes....
Happy September running everyone ๐.

That sounds blissful, Deb! What a lovely place to run โ and well done! September is my favourite time to run; I was out this morning and the sun with a cool nip in the air early on just filled me with a joy to be alive.
So glad you had a lovely summer of running. I know it must be incredibly hard as a teacher to get out there during winter, and know how much it means to you. xxx
Thanks Sadie - It was blissful this morning, but the back to work gremlins are snapping at my heels. Was just planning for September in my head - realistically thinking 3 runs a week intervals and tempo runs on tarmac two (soon to be dark) evenings a week - to try and work on speed (it's all relative it won't be that fast ๐) and a lovely long trail run at the weekend (to keep up the distance at 10k).
If I could run in the mornings it would be easier... but I kept going last winter (all that snow and rain!) so I can do this right?
How lovely, and what a great run. Of course, you're back at work on tuesday aren't you? My friend Kate has been bemoaning the return to work.
It was lovely - and really close to home. I am delighted to have found some more routes to explore. Have just looked at the map and I was way off the route I'd intended - but lots of lovely footpaths out there for the autumn.
Yes officially back on Tuesday, but will be at work from Monday. I love it on the good days but it sometimes seems to leave so little time for anything else - still the running is here to stay!
Thanks Jan - I've had such a lovely summer and lots of lovely running that it was very fitting that this one was so delightful - if a bit shorter than planned.
Just have to try and hold on to some of that lovely summer serenity as I get sucked into the demands of the autumn term. Still at least running is a good stress buster after a difficult day.
Lovely post DebJogsOn & a lovely setting for your brilliant run too!! Sept is a whole new start to another part of the year, I enjoyed Autumn so much more as a runner last year so Iโm looking forward to the same again but with much easier running...happy Autumn Deb x
