I don’t know the answer Mcdon but I am interested in the replies you get as I am thinking I’m going to need something breathable but rainproof otherwise it will be back to the dreadmill.

Waterproof and wind proof are expensive and only really used by fell racers and ultra marathoners who are for long hours up in the hills

Lightweight run jackets are what you’re looking for They’re really light and can be tied round your waist for popping back on post run. Or for running in the rain. My fave one is from Aldi and it has a hood £6.99

They’re “shower resistant” rather than waterproof

I have trespass jackets but they are too heavy I wore them last year when it was freezing. Yes I was looking on line some are very expensive. I have a cheap one I got on line but it sticks to the sweat and feels uncomfortable to wear. I will look out for Aldi having jackets thanks so much x

I use a light weight showerproof that is light and ties around my waist once im warm. When its colder weather, and wet, i wear a long sleeve base layer, then the jacket. The jacket rarely stays on for the full run.

It is important however to ensure you get out of the wet clothes quickly once you finish the run.

Thanks Millsie, yes I think runs may start and finish at home when autumn comes

I bought a lightweight breathable waterproof from Mountain Warehouse a couple of months ago in the sale. Then the sun kept shining so haven't tested it yet! My main concern is how breathable it will be...would rather be wet from the rain than from my own sweat!

Yes me too when it starts to stick to your own sweat it’s horrible

I have a thin windproof water resistant Ronhill one I got off eBay. It has a flashing led on the back and reflective strips and is breathable. It cost about £24, which I thought was a bargain but turns out to be barely less than new price.

That sounds like what I’m looking for I want something very light. Can you wear it all year round with more layers underneath

in reply toMcdon

I only wear it in winter with a long sleeved thermal running top under. I haven’t needed a running jacket since early spring because if you get wet in summer you soon dry out again. You could wear it in summer though as it wicks sweat away and is breathable.

Regatta have a great sale on at the mo. Look at the outlet bit of the site. I managed to get a really thin shower proof one last year from them and a slightly thicker one which keeps the wind out but is breathable too and they are both on there this year too.

Just bought one for my lovely daughter who has encouraged me so much this year
