Hello lovely running fiends 👹

Woke up rather excited for my run this morning, as rain was forecast, and I quite like running in warm rain. But the rain never came! Pffft. Still, it was a nice temperature at around 18 degrees and I enjoyed the run (apart from the 6km mark, I always struggle at that point).

It’s almost my one year runniversary, and I feel a ramble coming on. So much has changed with my running over the year, and it has been an amazing journey. I am off to Edinburgh for 6 days next week and have decided to take a “running break”. The last few months have been quite intense in terms of my running, and I think my legs will truly benefit from a wee rest. I will be doing LOTS of walking, so will be staying active.

But I am a firm believer in running breaks - you come back stronger I am sure!

Fantastic Sadie. I was worried that I hadn’t run in 8 days on hols but amazed myself that I can still run!! 😬

Well, it takes longer than a week or two to lose fitness, so we should never fear a little time out - especially for a holiday!

Thanks Deb! I know, I know...but I am due some time off running, and will do some wonderful hikes instead - planning a trip to the Pentlands for some hills and a few laps of Holyrood Park. (As well as taking in the festival and lots of food and drink hoorah!) x

Lovely run, I'm very jealous. Today is the last day of a two week break for me. Have to decide tomorrow if that should be a three week break just to be sure the thigh is healed. I have been swimming and doing pilates, and have another week's memberhip to continue those if needs be. I too am hoping the running break - albeit enforced - will give me a real boost when I get back into it. Enjoy your holiday :)

Well, the key is to not run again until properly healed, and the swimming and Pilates will really help with your running form when you get back to it, Linda! I had over 2 weeks off, maybe longer I cannot remember, when I pulled a hamstring - and on my first run back I got a PB on my 5k time! I think my legs benefitted from the rest you know. Wishing you a speedy recovery my dear. 😘

Sounds like a lovely run. I did a PR yesterday and it was 16/17 when I got there.... felt lovely to run in!

Yes a break will do you good and you’ll run 10k when you get back, set a new PB and wonder what happened! Lol xx

Well done dearest Sadie. You are going from strength to strength. And as for the rain: it’s here. I’m sittting with the heating on, the windows shut and my winter woollies on. I can’t believe I was taking measures to avoid heat stroke last week!

I hear you, re the running break. Ive only upped my distance per week by a little and I’m very tired. Can’t stop this month as am doing a virtual challenge, but after that I might take a few days break before getting ready for my 10k race at the end of September. Yesterday’s parkrun was a struggle and that’s not like me as it’s a distance I think of as small now. Anyway, excuse the womble, I’m trying to agree with you! Xxx

I am feeling very strong right now, Flick! I admit I think I will miss running for 6 days, but confident it will give me a new lease of life when I return. I love running, I want to keep it precious, and I know from previous experience that a wee break does my body the wonder of good. We Runner’s find it hard though, eh?’

Well done on your first park run btw! You are braver than me, haven’t done one yet...still a lone wolf, galloping through the woods. 🐕

You have your heating on?! Cripes! Such an extreme change of temp, eh. Still pretty warm here in London Town but grey and eeek, I smell autumn in the air already! Stay cosy. xxx

Ha, I too was a lone wolf galloping through the woods. Everyone else was so much faster that they disappeared into the distance rapidly, leaving me to plod on alone. X

Well done Sadie, as ever, a really positive message here. So glad your 10k was good, and it's another one under your belt, right? And it's 10k. That's always something to be proud of. You are doing really really well at this, and I think you're a natural.

I think your idea of a running break is also excellent. I'm considering having a bit of a break before my next 10k which I'm hoping to do on Friday when I'm off. It's mainly because my work schedule is not great for running, but like you, it will do me good and I'm sure I'll come back stronger.

So well done you, as ever, I look up to you!!

Aw, thanks dear Neil. Not sure I am quite a natural, have had to work at it pretty hard! But I’ll take the compliment. 😁

A few extra days rest before a 10k works a treat. I used to worry about long gaps between runs, but not so much now. Have been running three times a week consistently for a while now, so feel ready for a little time out. And perhaps a faster run on my return, or a longer distance, who knows!

A lovely run Sadie. Do have a lovely break in Bonny Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 and enjoy all that it has to offer without thinking that you need to run in the morning. I found very different muscles were aching when hillwalking in the Lakes.

Thanks dear Ted! Hill walking is both good for the soul and the calf muscles. 😀 I will only be taking 6 days off running, but it will be good for my legs I think. I am a firm believer in wee breaks from running. It’s hard when you are as addicted as I am though!

Thanks Sqkr! I come up every August, so know to pack my rain mac. ☔️💦💨 😁 I love it. After a balmy summer in London I am actually looking forward to cooler temps, being able to sleep at night and some “refreshing” wind and rain lol! x

Fantastic Sadie-runs ...you have worked so hard over the last few weeks getting up to the big 10...I’m always worried that I will struggle if I don’t run for more than 3 days but of course, that’s rubbish! Enjoy your break in Edinburgh, those runs will still be there waiting for you when you get back & I bet you’ll be stronger than ever xxx

Thanks darling. I have noticed so many great improvements to my running over the last few months, and am sure reaching 10k is the reason! And in my past experience, a short break (of around a week) makes me even stronger! It takes more than a week to lose fitness, and I will be doing lots of walking and keep up my core of steel exercises, of course! xxx
