The beauty of island running.

I wish I could say that I have continued along my 10k journey with the 8k next on JuJu's fab plan but the heat and I are not friends.

Now that I have acclimatised myself I forced myself to get out at 7am in the cool. Plus I was also dying to try out my new kit from SturdybyDesign - soooo comfy & funky - thanks for the recommendation, Flick!

Kefalonia is hilly and although I'm used to hills at home (but good at avoiding the ones I don't fancy!) I only managed a short 3k.

But what a 3k! Running with my husband we explored little streets around the hilltop village which you bypass in the car. The scent of jasmine and pines wafted round each bend & the bells on the goats tinkled gently. Lazy cats gazed at us sleepily under their bougainvillea canopies and then, the sea. That beautiful Ionian blue stays with you for the whole of the downhill stretch.

I am always pleased that I made the effort to get out no matter what the run was like but it's runs like these were l feel a huge sense of peace and gratitude for life. Life is not always easy, our bodies don't always work as well as we'd like but there is much to be thankful for every day.

Enjoy the moment!

What a beautiful post - and photo - you describe it all so well! I’ll be on Crete next Sunday so hoping I too can find some coolness to run in - and I’m sure some beautiful views also! Have a wonderful holiday and happy Greek running! 🏃‍♀️ 🇬🇷

Lucky you! Crete is on my wish list too. I find the evenings too muggy & not keen on dodgy tracks/'roads' in the dark so I would recommend anytime before 7.30am. Have a lovely holiday!

Thank you - you too! And I definitely think early is the best time. I run early at home so will do the same on holiday. X

Oh, it sounds such bliss. i love Greece. Your descriptions are wonderful and took me there with you. I want to go and run there now. And so glad you like the Sturdys. any chance of photos? x

Thanks, Flick. I'll have to model them before my next run (couldn't subject people to the 'after' views!). Think mine are the long shorts called Mambo - sort of stained glass window pattern. Even husband who has few opinions about clothes thought they looked good!
