A little about me. I came to running after my Mum died, I had a choice either back to booze and fags or try something different. I decided I wanted to try a Triathlon by the time I was 50.
I have been running five years now.
I started with another program but didn’t do very well so found this forum and the podcasts and the rest as they say is history
After my triathlon I wasent going to do races but I read a post by a certain panther ju-ju- about her first HM and I was so inspired I wanted to do that sort of thing as well so I put in for my first HM.
Running in my area is strange I live on the top of a hill so all my runs end with an uphill run.
Hackney half marathon. I love that event. The atmosphere is amazing and the crowds are great.
Mid race snack is dried mango and post race is Pret hot chocolate and almond croissant. I love them.
Decathlon. Most of my gear comes from there and I could spend all my pocket money there
Inspirational post and a lovely pic. I'm taking on board the dried mango mid run snack as i love dried mango. I've ordered a load of electrolytes and energy stuff from Amazon but they still haven't arrived! My post run snack is a carton of Alpro soya chocolate milk. Keep running, we are right behind you x
Oh wow, I had no idea that I inspired you to do a HM, I’m so very touched....😻 this is such a lovely read and such a blessing that you found running when you did. I really hope your appointment goes well today and your feet behave... 😎
Thank you. Hehe, I suppose we never really know all the implications of all our posts until we talk about it.😀. I’ll let you know about the podiatrist.
This is awesome! Thank you for posting, and for the link back I will link my post to yours - hope that's ok?
I used to live at the top of a hill, and would be a complete beetroot-face after cycling home from work. I always thought it was probably best on the whole that I had the downhill to work and the uphill home - a much better incentive to tackle that hill!
Decathlon - awesome! That photo is wonderful, you look so amused and I absolutely love your hair!! I'm so glad you found running when your mum died xx
Thanks fine.thank you. Only once in all the time I have been running have i taken the bus back home from the bottom of the hill and that was after my first ever 17km . 😀. For my long runs (18km+) now I have a route that stops off between London Bridge and elephant and castle (next to a Pret) and then get a bus back to my door 😂😂😂😂.
Wow - and you just casually mentioned that you did a triathlon! Which one did you do, and how did you prepare for that one? Is there a C2Triathlon programme Hope the podiatrist appointment went well? xx
Thank you. I did the Leonard Cheshire one in London, it was a little sprint one but I liked the fact it was a pool based one. 400 m swim, 15km cycle and 5km run. They don’t do it anymore otherwise I think I might of kept going as it was more or less on my doorstep. There are some experienced people on here who do triathlons and are willing to share information ask questions they will help if you are interested in Going for one yourself. I am waiting for orthotics for my shoes and hopefully that will sort out my feet problems, exciting times ahead.
A pool-based swim does sound good ... not much in the way of warm seas or lochs around here! I only ever swim when I'm on holiday, but just back from 3 weeks in Portugal and really enjoyed popping into the pool most days, usually after a run. What a shame they're not organising that triathlon again! x
Thank you for sharing your story. I also turned to running to avoid too much booze and fags (still vaping but will quit that too). Many thanks for reminding me of decathlon, I always used it for cycling and somehow never got to get any of my running stuff from there!
