Hill Sprints 😫

So I’ve been doing a bit of googling on whether hill sprints are great or should be avoided at all costs. I was hoping it would be the latter! Unfortunately it’s not and very good in building well....everything! πŸ’ͺ🏼πŸ’ͺ🏼πŸ’ͺ🏼

For a hill beginner can anyone recommend a plan to follow which I can incorporate into my running week?

Thank you! 😬

I intend to use the Strava hill repeat training plan.Strength and speed.πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Is that good for beginners? Also where do I find that? 🧐

I am a novice.

If you download Strava,it’s free unless you go premiumπŸ€”

I used it after Parkrun as recommended.

If you press more in the bottom right hand corner it will lead you to a menu and two training plans,

hill repeats plan and progression runs plan.

The progression runs maybe so, but Laura’s stamina podcast is good substitute Her three graduate podcasts are excellent.

Hope this helps.πŸŒŸπŸ‘πŸ‘

I run hills as part of my regular running routes (slow but steady) and even quite like them sometimes but "sprinting"?...."hills"? ...never in the same sentence, I'm afraid!πŸ˜‰ Good luck with it though!πŸ˜€πŸ‘

Me too Sandra. Slow and steady for me, and I never repeat 😁 I get to the top and keep going. I’d rather find another hill than run the same one twice πŸ˜ƒ

If you are a new graduate just take care. Take your hills - like everything else- carefully! Hills are hard work, so run them in bite-sized pieces.

Running them, pocket to socket - as they say - is very tough. Pumping your arms and driving your legs. Just be careful πŸ™‚. You can fast walk very steep hills as it’s more efficient use of energy πŸ‘

Thanks misswobble. I have avoided all hills till now. The ones I’ve tried have left me exhausted when running on. I’ve pumped arms etc too! I’ve read doing more hills will build my strength for longer runs? πŸ€”

It will eventually but you build up to it. We build strength a bit at a time. I started off on a long hill near my house and tackled it many times before I could get to the top without stopping. Even now I couldn’t do it fast. I still do it slowly, or I’d never get up the ruddy thing

Go and find a hill and slowly run up it. That’s the way to get better at them. Lung power is the thing 😀. You can’t hurry that. You have to build it, and running hills regularly will deffo help with that πŸ™‚

That’s all right πŸ˜ƒ. You go and have Some running fun When you get to grips with your hill it’ll be like you conquered Everest

I called my first hills, The Hill of Death and The Slope of Doom 😁
