So today I awoke bright and early full of glee, as today was the day I had planned to try the 6k run of week 2 of ju-ju’s 10k plan. I set out nice and slow, taking it easy waiting for the toxic 10 to pass...it felt good.
However, I first smelled a rat when at the first km announcement on MMR said my pace was 5.3 mins per km. What?! No way! I am running soooo slowly, much slower than my usual 5k pace. This continued, even when I consciously slowed some more. According to the silly app I did 6k in 33 mins. Except, erm, I really didn’t. Bah! Judging by the time it was more like 5k.
So, with Strava now downloaded, I shall try again for 6k on Saturday!
Anyone else have this issue with MapMyRun?

That's the second post I've read this morning about mmr fails. I haven't had problems with it but I haven't used it in a while because I'm still stuck on the treadmill. I did end up short on my 4k yesterday though. I will call it a technology fail - trying to calculate time required for a slightly faster pace while I was doing my warm up walk - converting from mph to mins per km then time - but more likely it was a brain/eyesight fail 🤣🤣🤣
Oh that’s interesting...wonder why this is happening? Makes me wonder how accurate any of my stats are now! I wouldn’t care as much, but when you are trying to reach targets it’s so annoying! x
Thanks Ted! I am feeling slightly less annoyed about it now, I still had a lovely run, which I think was about 5k. I had two runs left this week - a 5k and a 6k - so no bother, I will do the 6k on Saturday (using Strava!) x
Ha! Fat chance! I can be speedy when I put my mind to it (I had to sprint like Usain Bolt this morning to make the traffic lights!), but I was genuinely tortoise-paced today.
Morning! I have both but only used mmr a couple of times but it’s always different to Strava! I’m sticking to Strava as seems most accurate. MMR does have a bit of bad press for accuracy.
Yes! MMR and Strava have both caused me considerable aggro.... so that I eventually bought myself a ‘cheap’ Garmin.... and then got stuck on the IC 🙄😂. A lot of people are fine with Strava so hopefully you will be too 😀. It’s very annoying when you have a plan to stick to isn’t it? But once I’d done 10k I wasn’t really bothered with the Garmin anymore! Nowt as queer as folk eh? Good luck in getting your 6k sorted xx
Oh, flipping hip. I had a sore hip on and off during C25K, and it is very annoying. Once the pain even shot down from my hip to my thigh eeeep! Have not had it since. Done a lot of core strengthening since and have sneaky suspicion that a lot of my lower body aches and pains were linked to that. Do you do the figure of four stretch regularly? It’s a life saver! A slow run to test things out is a very good idea; I hope it goes well. And you know, summer running ain’t all that, FPF...the heat is bloody draining! Take care. xxx
Sometimes they do play up.... is it on your watch? I find the phone apps less reliable... But well done more importantly.....another run bites the dust... boom
Yeah, I was so ready for it! Strava is all downloaded and ready for 6k attempt no.2 now! The good news is, when I finished this morning I reckon I did have another 1k in me, so not worrying about it! xxx
I use MapMyRun, and it's only played up a couple of times. The other day I had a problem with it, but I think it was a PICNIC kind of problem. That's a term IT technicians use when someone has IT issues - Problem In Chair Not In Computer. 😂😂😂 While I wasn't sitting in a chair at my desk or using a computer, it was down to me. I forgot to switch the screen off when I put my phone in my run belt, and inadvertently hit pause. further on in my run, I went to look at my phone and hit resume. Then of course MMR calculated my pace on the distance it now registered, with some of the distance covered in no time, because it assumed no time had passed while it was paused (if you get what I mean). I ended up with a really fast time, for a couple of km, and it just made me smile as I would have had to be the bionic woman to run that fast. 😂😂😂
PICNIC? Not heard that before, very funny! 😂 There was a tiny part of me that thought I had somehow miraculously got super-fit without realising it...but that didn’t last long! Ah well. xxx
I think it’s best to double up if you can as stupidly it is really gutting if your run doesn’t record properly. We ve still done the run, had the exercise , done the hard work but it doesn’t seem to count if it not recorded!!! My Fitbit is currently refusing to update and link with Strava. I got my ass out of bed at 530 this morning and ran 6.5km it had better bloody record it . Not used Runkeeper but have used Strava and mapmyrun.
Yeah, the machines are dying. My Endomondo informed me yesterday that l covered 840 metres in 46 minutes of running, not walking on my arms while reciting Milton, running. Meh. Thankfully, l know how long my routes are by now and given that the Olympic team dropped me, the pressure’s off.
Are they turning against us, mrrun?! Eeeeep. I wouldn’t care, but am a purist when following a programme, so want to be sure of the kms I am putting in. Hope all is well with you, post HM.
I’m mid program to another HM, getting my gait re-checked this morning after a year and replacing my battered shoes. Full blown middle aged crisis, at least channelled in the right direction. I refuse to dye my hair, grow ponytail and buy a motorcycle.
Good man. (With refusing to go down the ponytail/motorcycle/bad hair dye route). And new shoes hoorah! I have been eyeing OnCloud shoes, but in two minds. They look so light and speedy. And pretty. And spendy. Sigh. Glad to hear you are on the HM trail again, enjoy.
