Thanks for the ParkRun advice on picking up pace. I tried to go off steady, although I realised I was quite fast for me when I got my 1k split from MapMyFitness 🙄 - it’s the excitement at the ParkRun! Anyway I managed to slightly pick up pace at about 3k and especially for the last 1k and got down from 33:55 to 33:02. Very pleased and so close to sub 33 😂. Sub 30 still seems a very long way off but I’ll keep with the 10k and fast shorter run as something is working.
Oooh those 2 little seconds though...

Took me a while to get a sub 30 5k...but by the time i actually managed it i realised i wasnt really all that bothered & much prefer distance over speed any day 😊
I'm gonna try a few park runs before doing the hull 10k. I'm also going to stick to running 5k and 7-8k runs till the race. I think I'll keep doing the full 10k till the day. I've done it once but just worried pusing it by doing 10k every week before that might cause a bit of wear and tear. Or maybe I should. I have no idea this is all new.
I've been advised on the day to find the toilets first so I know where to go If I need to reduce stress. I've been told porridge with blueberries is good before the run and I think I'll take one gel with me just in case I need a pick me up. But I don't think I'll take a water bottle as there are stations along route with water and I don't actually take on water normally doing my runs
I haven’t got a plan yet 😂 I did my first 10k last Monday so I think I’ll try again on Monday. I’d ideally like to do it every week. I didn’t find it too bad as I went so much slower than my 5k pace. Just a bit achey in the back for the last 1k. I do a shorter run, maybe 4K, where I’m doing some faster running and am thinking about going for interval training, though it’s exhausting!
It’ll be interesting to see our progress over the next few months.
Forgot to add that I too am trying to run sub 30 but I've got 5k don't fron 42 to 36 minutes but I like distance over speed I'm sure the speed will come with fitness
I do a 1mile warm up then 3 lots of 5 with a 2minute break inbetween that my son programmed for me.... I got my PB down by 4 minutes over 4 months with this.....
I got sub 30 at parkrun by doing the couch to 5K+ stamina and speed podcast runs. The stamina one is hard, but builds you up.. I did the speed one around the last km of my parkrun course because that’s what I was finding difficult.
My first parkrun time was 34.58. Yesterday, 41 parkruns later it was 28.02. Know what you mean about those extra 2 seconds..
