Park run done , felt gooooood, but I prefer the 10ks

Morning!..

Am waiting in trepidation for my park run text as I think I just got my first 30min 5k ( something I’ve been aiming for) it’s a bit frustrating coz park runs fluctuate in distances and there are two near me , one is 4.8 and my one is 5.2 . So my phone tells me I do 5k in 30 but my “official times” are always 31...those last 200 metres 🤬🤬

Anyhow , I’m putting whatever my time is down to my 1st 10k this week ( first rule -tell everyone you’ve done 10k) my wife official tells me to shut up now 🤫🤣

Feel more achievement with distances than times though, which is confusing me and I’m already looking forward to running my next 10ks next week. It just feels more satisfying doing that in an hour (and a bit) than burning around a 5k. I also take the longer runs at a slower pace so I feel more relaxed and chilled . Park runs I just tend to run as fast as I can and devout the rest of my energy into prayers of “please don’t throw up, please don’t throw up, please don’t throw up...( I’m being serious) 🤣🤣🤣

Take care all 👍🏻

Good luck for when that time comes through! I agree, 5 and 10Ks are very different and for a long time I preferred 10Ks and also felt massive pride in running my first half marathon at 52! However, at the moment I am mixing things up a bit and enjoying those 5k's just as much. Pushing it in a 5k is hard work though, no doubt about it! Also, I agree that greater endurance will also transfer to improved 5k times. Fingers crossed for you.🙂

My ParkRun is 5.2k too. It’s so annoying. I’m aiming for sub 30. Might have to go elsewhere to a different ParkRun to get a definite 5k route and get that time.

Without sounding like a stalker..😱😱...if you live in the county of Kent I can tell which one is the shorter of the two I know in terms of distance 👍🏻

My local park run always comes up just shy of 5K on Garmin so I get no virtual plaudits for PBs.

Do I care? Well, yes actually. That's why I wear the watch. I'm wondering what the marshals will think if I go off piste a bit to get the extra 100 metres.

I sometimes find 10k as hard as a 5k definitely all in the mind. If I’m planning a 10k I just get on and do it always make sure I’ve slept well and day off makes such a difference x
