Intervals

Had my first crack at intervals today. Decided I’d go on the half km announcements from Strava. Probably not to be repeated - was absolutely hanging after 2-3 mins at my fastest pace. Better approach required next time I think and only 60-90 seconds at fast pace.

I think full whack should only be attempted between telegraph poles, street lights lol. 500m at 60m dash pace is a big ask :)

You’re right. Probably wasn’t quite a sprint but definitely too ambitious for the distance attempted. Will try shorter distances next time - street lights etc is a good idea.

You could try the Speed Podcast. It's a bit like wk1 but faster.

Thanks. Tried stepping stone but not speed yet. Will give it a try.

I've been doing sprints as part of 30/20/10 which is only 10 seconds of sprinting at a time. This is done 4 times in a row then repeated another three to four times. There was link to it on a recent post ( about 6 weeks ago). I think I interpreted it correctly but I might have got it wrong ;)

Thanks. That sounds worth a try. How do you time the intervals? Running watch or just count 😀

I have tried counting in my head but found that difficult as seconds different to my pace / breathing rhythm lol! I have also used my basic stopwatch and just kept looking at the time. But, I have recently received a Garmain forerunner 35 as a present and that has an interval setting on it. I couldn't set it to exactly what I wanted but set it to 30 seconds run and 30 seconds walk x 4. It has a beeping count down that vibrates at the start/ end of each 30 seconds so don't need to keep looking at watch. The first 30 I do the slow pace then when the second 30 seconds starts, I am not walking but actually up my pace for 20 seconds, so do glance at my watch then and when it has count down to 10 seconds, I sprint until it vibrates again and then repeat. Sorry, this is rather a longwinded answer ;) . There probably is something out there that does the job exactly. Quite addictive this running thing :)

That’s good. I’ve been angling for a forerunner but I stupidly ran it by my better half and it’s been vetoed for now. I can add that to my next bid for spending approval 😀

Mine was a birthday present from my other half. He likes buying gadgets but I'm not always so keen to receive them. However, this one I do like and a relative, who has expensive tastes, recommended it to him :0
