Snowy running

Couldn't resist getting out in it again as I felt like a kid with a new toy at xmas that wasn't allowed to play on it because of the snow. Think I got rollerskates one year when I was little and couldn't try them on the ice for obvious reasons.

But as i'm a grown up now, out I went looking for fresh trax :) Took the camera today which is a first, had intended to try for 10k today but the legs weren't there for it and all the stopping and starting to take pics which was nice also made the legs a bit tired of the stop starts.

Sad that it will likely all be gone in a day or two.. had an extra layer on today as well, but was boiling like a lobster in the pot so definitely need a two layers unless -5c and below rule.

Thanks jnr. Got some lovely pics. Shame you have to montage them on here. Though to some the endless skies look a bit desolate.

Used to live on the fens too. Like being in a rowboat in the middle of the Atlantic skyscape- wise. ;-)

Great stuff! I am heading out in a mo, just letting my porridge go down 😋 I am pavement running though, albeit in my trail shoes. So far My Saucony peregrines have been really good on the snow when I’ve been out with the pully dog 🐕

It’s lovely,to be out on the trail, with the camera phone, and have a few breaks to take in the sights and sounds . Everything can be so quiet after heavy snowfall it all looks so different under a blanket of snow It’s great to be a runner isn’t it 😃👍🏃‍♂️

Back home to a hot drink and some healthy grub 👍😋

Hope you stayed safe and looking forward to the pics ☺. Yes I should have had trail shoes on but trying to break in the cloudflyers.

I love snow.. I love snowboarding. Shame there's no hills in the fens.

Beautiful pics pink! There is definitely an art to cold weather running. Ideally, you should be cold at the start (but not uncomfortable)and will usually warm up nicely within a Km or 2. I'm always a sweaty mess by the end of my runs despite doing a lot of it, so I still haven't quite mastered it.

Great photos. The fens look very dreamy and otherworldly in the snow - a sort of quiet and unassuming beauty.

Stopping and starting is tough. I did a lot of that yesterday and I felt far more worn out than I think I would have done otherwise.

Thanks Helene. I must take my phone more often and maybe use it as an excuse to drive to some new locations for some different scenery. I'm jealous of ju-ju's running through the woods, or your city river runs.. so need to find some alternatives. FlickM3 can keep her hilly chipping norton though, she's welcome to it :P

Hills are murder, no matter how fit they may make you. There were a couple of steep inclines yesterday that damn near finished me off.

Looking for new scenery sounds like a good idea. I am normally really bad-tempered the first time I test out a new route. I usually then love it, but need to gain possession of it first, so that I can run blithely and without thinking. For instance, it would have been great if I had known beforehand what people go to the Circus Maximus to do these days (clue: not chariot racing) :-o

Oh now I want to know, but probably don't need to lol. I thought it was just a big park these days, do people walk their dogs there.. or other dog related activities.

Rendez-vous between gentlemen ... Apparently everyone in Rome knew this apart from me. I sort of barged through a bush before realising what was going on there and was very British about it, with my "Oops, hello, excuse me, just passing through..."

Oh Helene.. you poor thing. You can't unsee that sort of stuff!! Definitely not on tripadvisor. Well certainly not the normal version lol

I need to write the alternative guide to the fauna of Rome from a runner's perspective. So far I have encountered the chaps in flagrante in the Circo Massimo, Darth Vader having a wee in the Tiber, the Flying Scotsman on his bike with his tam o'shanter and scary tartan leggings, the guy with the badly attached flapping toupee, the muscley runner in his leotard...

I'm just going to casually point out that all these specimens were male...
