Gosh, what a long way!

I still have trouble with the first 1 - 2k, gremlins sit on both shoulders whispering in my ears that I won't finish my run ... but incredibly they seem to fall in the canal after that!

I'm still on track for my personal 10k challenge in February although I won't be breaking any speed records! I've found fitting in three runs a week a bit tricky over the last month what with Christmas, weather, life etc. so I'm looking forward to the longer days when I can get out earlier in the mornings.

Happy running everyone!

The canal is the best place for them! Well done for still being on track. Hope the weather is kind to you.

Well done on reaching 9k. I also still find the first 1-2k the hardest but now know it will get better, just being the toxic 10, so I am always able to run through it. I've come to really love the longer runs because I feel I'm just hitting my stride by 5k.

Toxic 10 or toxic 15 sometimes! Good to know we all go through it. Happy running!

Hi Wizziewood ...I am so glad you said that...& you SaskAlliecat ....I have trouble with the first 1-2kms...sometimes I stop & Walk for maybe 30secs then I’m off again...is that ok do you think?? Does that still count towards the distance?? I only did 3.8kms this morning but the first km was a bit of both...sometimes I feel like I’ve cheated but I suppose I’m still out there eh??

I'd say it definitely counts! You're out there, you're running, and you are doing what you need to be successful. There are no hard and fast rules (other than running slow and steady 😉). I just ran 14.5k on the weekend and had to walk every 2-3k to take a drink from my fuel belt (I can't run and drink without wearing it yet) but hell ya, I did it, it counts, and I'm happy about it. Surprisingly, my legs were barely sore after. Maybe because of the five 15-30second walking breaks I took while drinking?

I know what you mean. That's why I love when I've got a long run planned because I know I've eked out the time, have no other worries or commitments and when 5k hits, I'm in my groove and can just keep going and going. Keep getting out there, running what feels good and on those days when you have a bit more time, try to go a little further if you're feeling it.

Never ever judge a run by the first kilometre or two (they lie!!). Well done for kicking those gremlins in to touch - if you have cracked 9k then 10k will be yours on your next lone run, Good luck!🙂
