Groin strain?

Been out running tonight and have had to stop as the muscles on my inner thighs at the top feel like I have pulled them, don't know if this is groin strain?? It's on both sides, has anyone else had this? X

Hi. Sounds like it is. I have a grumbling problem in my right leg only exactly the same as you are outlining. It is a groin strain. Your warm up and cool down are important. You might also want to see a physio if possible to get advice about exercises to do. I can run with mine but it hurts afterwards. I stretch before and after to minimise any damage.

Thanks for that donkeywhistler, I've read ice packs and rest help, can't understand why it's happened though, I haven't done anything different 😕

Me too. I've been a graduate for a few months and can run a bit but it has only troubled me recently. It is a difficult injury to treat so I recommend some professional help or rest it a good while until you're sure it's mended.

I've had that before after hard runs. Unless it feels really painful it's probably nothing that a couple of days rest won't fix🙂

Thanks, it's ok unless I walk with long strides so I'm doing little ones!!! X

I had a bit of that, had some rest and very gently stretched the area which helped and ache faded, still get odd twinges, so always make sure I warm up and do cool down walk and stretches after running. Don't try and stretch cold muscles before running, limberup and do brisk warm up walk..😊

Thank you for that, I think that's what's caused it, not warming up enough! X

It's exertion that you are not used to. As you get stronger you should be ok. Always do a proper warm ups cool, down walk and some post run stretches

If I get a groin ache I do the footballer stretch where you swing your leg over the back of an imaginary chair. You can get the idea by actually using a kitchen chair. Gently raise your leg and pass it over the back of the chair from one side of the other. You do it with a bent leg

Gently! 🙂

I warm up indoors before the warm up walk. I like to be really warmed up 😀

I've got my first official 5 mile run next Sunday so I think rest this week and do some gentle exercises like you suggested and hopefully I'll be ok xx
