The Oxford Half

I am writing this as a very sore, but very accomplished woman. Happy to say I completed the half marathon yesterday in Oxford! It was much more difficult than I thought it would be and I definitely struggled to keep a moderate pace in the beginning as the atmosphere and the large number of people caused me to go faster than I intended. But I finished in 1:44:29 (managed to beat my boyfriend by 8 min, which was a bonus!) and I am very happy about that.

I took the suggestions given from my last post about refuelling, had some jelly babies that were given out mid race.. and made sure to have flapjacks on hand for afterwards. Thank you very much for all of your advice!!

It felt like I was building up for this for so long; the training, the fundraising (for Endometriosis UK).. I almost feel sad that it's over now. But now I guess it's on to the next running challenge .. whichever it may be!

Thank you for the support and kind words about my race yesterday. It's so nice to come on here and read about everyone else's accomplishments and journeys and to also get support from everyone.

Good luck to everyone on their runs today!

Really great time, well done!! No matter what your boyfriend says, he is devastated and will train extra hard next time :-)

I did the OH too, my first half. That's a great time you did - I was dead pleased with my 2:12, so I know that yours was special. Wasn't it a good day?

I know what you mean about feeling sad it's over - I followed a 16 week training plan, running 5 times a week, and there's a sense of loss of purpose after completing it. I decided to join a running club, and went for the first club run on Thursday evening. I think I'm going to enjoy it!
