Had breast cancer in 2010 with chino and radiotherapy, also a lumpectomy. Went recently about a sciatic nerve problem and ended up having scans which found I had metastatic cancer in my back. Have lost over a stone in weight through not eating. Very depressed and anxious. Nhs have given me the run around. I was told by a specialist over the phone that my GP should have referred me after the first scan and fast tracked me for a biopsy but didn’t. He referred me after the second scan and we have had to chase up with finally getting an appt on Monday. Meanwhile we have been in touch with a top Oncologist in the North East where I live and I am seeing him privately on Monday evening. I feel very let down and obviously the time delays aren’t helping my peace of mind. I am hoping treatment can be offered and not palliative care. One of the reasons for going private is access to drugs not available on the NHS. My husband and I were due to go to America in July, who knows now if that will happen. The NHS treated me brilliantly the first time.

Hi Ellie

Sorry to read of your news and feeling let down. I'm sure everyone here and anyone else having been through cancer once, is anxious about a consequent diagnosis, I know it's something that is never far from my mind.

I hope you see some progress soon in going forward with your plan of treatment.

Take care xx

So sorry to hear that you have been treated so badly and about your new diagnosis. Now you must look after yourself so that treatment has the best possible chance. This means eating properly and maintaining your stress levels as best you can under the circumstances. Try not to go over too many what ifs and maybes in your head, it’s just too hard to cope with. Is there a support group in your area that you could talk to someone face to face or even on the phone about how you’re feeling? I always felt one of the worst things about being sick is feeling that however kind and well meaning your loved ones and friends are it can still feel so lonely inside because unless you actually experience this bloody disease and have to face an uncertain future you never really know how it feels. So maybe talking with someone who has been through the same experience may help. I really hope that once you start treatment with your oncologist you will feel more positive about it. Be kind to yourself xxxx

I am sorry that you were treated this way. I’m in Houston TX and had stupid weeks delays before starting chemo thanks to an oncologist. I understand your anger and anxiety. I hope you can trust in the process. Try to focus on all the things that are right and good. I was laid off when diagnosed and had no husband to take me to appts. Cancer taught me to focus on what is good and right. It’s fine to be mad for a bit but try to move to positive thoughts. Let us know your next steps. Sending hugs.
