I recently chose to have a medical abortion after failed contraception (condoms) during sex with my partner. I have since started taking the contraceptive pill Microgynon after the abortion, and have taken two packets back to back for personal reasons. I was bleeding heavily after the abortion and it has now slowed, but still consistent, which is worrying me. It has been 4 weeks since my abortion and I am beginning to think it was a bad decision to take both packets back to back due to the fact I am still bleeding slightly and also getting cramps, so I am debating whether I should just stop taking the second packet of pills (I am 7 days in, out of 21) in order to let my body have a period and hopefully my body can get back onto its normal cycle. However, I have read online that stopping a pill packet midway through is not safe. So, I would like some advice on whether to stop taking the packet now and allow my body to have a period and possibly not be protected (?) or to continue taking it for the next 14 days until finished and then have a period.

Contraceptive pill after medical abortion
Hi,
After my termination I opted for the coil to be fitted which they did. After problems and constant bleeding I ended up being admitted to my local hospital I discovered there were retained products and I was taken to theatre. The coil was removed and the procedure was carried out. The consultant advised me afterwards that no contraception should be used after a termination apart from condoms to give our bodies chance to heal and have a period to reset our cycles. I am still waiting for my first period operation was July 7th and my hormones are all over the place but I'm not bleeding and feel well.
If I was you I'd stop with the contraception I'd also seek medical advice I don't think it's usual to still be bleeding.
Hope all works out for you.
