Too much amnio fluid around baby @28 weeks

Hi I had a growth scan that showed too much amniotic fluid around baby Ive been told to go back in 4 weeks for another scan.

I made the mistake of googling this and now I am bery worried!

My daughter had excessive fluid around her, she was my first. I am now pregnant with number 4 also a girl. I also had pre pre- eclampsia with her, so it didn't go to full on pre- eclampsia. I had problems with delivery and had to have an emergency c-section but that isn't related to the fluid. Have you been checked for gestational diabetes at all?.As this can sometimes be a sign, excessive fluid. I have gestational diabetes this time but without excessive fluid but I am now having to inject insulin as my blood sugars are all haywire. I suspect I had undiagnosed gestational diabetes with my first as undiagnosed it can lead to pre-eclamsia. I had other symptoms such as swelling, itching, migraines and rib pain, all related to pre-eclampsia. I told my midwife at the time and she just didn't care. I also had protein in my urine and sugar. They have picked it up early with yourself though so don't panic and make sure if you get any other symptoms to let them known straight away and get them to listen. Also get them to do a diabetes check on you just to be on the safe side. I have to have monthly growth scans also with this pregnancy but with my other daughter I didn't find out about the excessive fluid until 37 weeks and went into labour at 39 weeks.I don't mean to scare you but just be aware of any other symptoms so you can tell them early if they happen to you. I was huge with my first. I mean massive but she was only 7lb 2.

Thanks for your response, I have no other symptoms yet! Just an achy huge belly my midwife is shit too I ended up going over her head and went straight to maternity ward with my pains

I think they check your urine each week MW appointment for GD don't they? I will ask for a blood test at my 31 week check though and look out for other symptoms but tbh Im addicted to sugar so will cut down just in case,

i am such a worrier its silly also had rib pain but been told its normal twenty odd times.

I am actually 28 weeks the same as you. My diabetes was picked up by sugar in my urine twice at a regular midwife appointment, very early at about 16 weeks. The first sign of pregnancy this time for me was excessive thirst to the point I could drink gallons and nothing quenched my thirst at all but some people get no signs of gestational diabetes at all. This is a different midwife and she is quite good. She sent me for further testing at the hospital and it was confirmed then. It's a nightmare when they don't listen to you at all I know. I was the same with my first craved sugar big time and everything sweet. If she ever tests your urine and plays down sugar/glucose in it which my first midwife did. I would ring the ante natal department at your local hospital and explain your concerns just to be safe. My daughter is fine but they need to be doing some basic tests on you such as bloods to make sure your antibodies are not raised ect. Sometimes the nhs just do not communicate with each other at all. Hope everything works out for you. X

Thanks I had my bloods done last week at my 28 week appointment, Always negative for glucose in my urine but I go to see MW again at 31 weeks so I will ask for a GD test and have another growth scan at hospital in four weeks to monitor my amniotic fluid but just incase I will cut down on my cakes and sweets thanks hun xx
