Is this normal?

I'm 8 weeks pregnant for the first time. Since yesterday I've been getting a strange taste in my mouth. I also have lots of ulcers. Is this normal? I'm worried it could be diabetes or something like that!

Hi Lunaberry - congratulations on your first pregnancy! A metallic taste in your mouth or foods tasting a bit funny is a very normal symptom of early pregnancy. Ulcers can just be a side effect of being a bit run down or tired, but if you are worried then do contact your GP. I'm sure they will be able to put your mind at ease.

Hi Lunaberry, congratulations! I don't have any kids myself but I do remember my sister complaining of a weird metallic taste all the time when she was first pregnant. No matter how much chewing gum or strong-flavoured food she ate she still had it, it drove her mad! I'm not sure about the ulcers though - they sound painful I would go to the GP if it was me, I hate pain! Good luck with everything!

You might want to try sour or acidic things like lemon if you can stomach it? That helped for me to make it slightly better. I think the metallic taste should go away in the second trimester. It's those bloody hormones ha ha!
